Interra Systems Expands Dolby Partnership, Adding Support for Dolby Vision to BATON QC Platform
Interra Systems, a leading global provider of software products and solutions to the digital media industry, today announced an extension to the company's partnership with Dolby. Interra Systems' BATON file-based quality control (QC) platform has now been integrated with Dolby Vision®, a next-generation standard that delivers superior high dynamic range (HDR) and wide color gamut (WCG) viewing experiences. BATON already supports Dolby Atmos®, an audio format for creating and playing back multichannel movie soundtracks for three-dimensional effect.
Dolby Vision transforms entertainment experiences with ultra-vivid picture quality — incredible brightness, contrast, color, and detail that bring entertainment to life before viewers' eyes. With support for Dolby Vision, BATON can now decode and apply the metadata contained in Dolby Vision streams. This enables OTT video service providers to unlock new functionalities such as the ability to check for conformance against Dolby Vision, decoding of Dolby Vision content, and checking for the presence of Dolby Vision metadata. Dolby Atmos transports consumers from an ordinary moment into an extraordinary experience with moving audio — sound that fills the room and flows all around with breathtaking realism to create a powerful entertainment experience.
As the industry's leading QC platform, BATON enables service providers to perform comprehensive video, audio, and closed caption checks. Featuring a flexible and scalable architecture, BATON is perfect for OTT providers that are looking to grow their video streaming service, improve efficiencies, and provide exceptional audio-video quality on every device.
"Interra Systems has always been very aggressive in adding support for Dolby technology in its QC tools," said Vijeta Kashyap, vice president of operations at Interra Systems. "This latest expansion of our partnership will enable customers to perform QC and analyze Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos streams in production and delivery workflows, expediting the time to market of high-quality HDR content. With the fast adoption of Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos on devices such as TVs and smartphones, supporting this new technology is a must for today's OTT video providers if they want to deliver rich, immersive viewing experiences."

A Headphone Wearing Theatre Audience Experiences Truly Immersive Live Audio Thanks To DPA and rsquo;s New 4560 Binaural Headset Microphone

Nanna-Karina Schleimann has become one of the first sound designers to make use of DPA’s new Binaural Headset Microphone, which gives sound technicians, vloggers, film makes and YouTubers an accurate and reliable tool to capture authentic immersive audio in real time.

Delivering the superior sound quality for which DPA products are internationally renowned, this new headset allows film, theatre and online content creators to capture exactly what each ear is hearing so that those consuming the content on headphones can experience full immersive sound. Earlier this year, while the 4560 Binaural Headset Microphone was still in development, Schleimann was given the opportunity to beta test it during her graduation performance from the Danish National School of Performing Arts in Copenhagen.

Three Binaural Headset Microphones were used to amplify the voices, actions and movements of the actors performing on stage in Good For Nothing, her graduation performance production. Each member of the audience was given a pair of headphones so they could hear the sound from each actor via a wireless system.

“The binaural microphones allowed the audience to hear exactly what the actors were hearing, as if they were standing on the stage and being whispered to,” Schleimann says.

disguise solutions Powered Video-Intensive Set for Network on Broadway Posted: 06/12/2019
disguise solutions Powered Video-Intensive Set for and lsquo;Network and rsquo; on Broadway

When Tal Yarden created the projection design for ‘Network’ on Broadway he selected disguise gx 2 media servers to drive the video-intensive environment that sets the scene for the iconic story of network anchor Howard Beale. Bryan Cranston won a Tony Award for his portrayal of Beale, an ageing anchor struggling with low ratings, who unravels live on the air only to become a new populist prophet.

Based on the Oscar-winning 1976 film, ‘Network’ was directed by Ivo van Hove and opened at the Belasco Theatre in December 2018. Brian Cranston reprised the role he premiered at the National Theatre in London in 2017. The show’s limited run was extended in 2019 with the final performance in June 2019.

Video was used as a way to heighten the story of Beale and his rise to fame. New York-based disguise rental partner Sound Associates supplied the video and audio equipment for the production. The set design for the TV studio featured over 50 screens across various types of monitors plus a large LED video wall and 6 projectors powered by disguise gx 2 media servers. The capture capabilities of the servers were also used to pipe in live video footage from moving cameras on the set further enhancing the storytelling and video design.

Although the film was written in 1976, the play’s creative team made the story relevant to the time while leaving in the original period references. “We wanted to extrapolate a kind of anachronistic storytelling,” says Tal. “So, technologically, it’s not all period television sets or cameras, and some of the content - although most of it is from the 70’s - spans time.” Interestingly, in doing research for the show he found a correlation between news stories and commercial advertising past and present.

Fincons Group, a leading IT management consultancy for the Media & Broadcast sector, through its German subsidiary Fincons.DE GmbH, joins Deutsche TV-Plattform, the German non-profit association whose purpose, since its foundation in 1990, is to introduce, disseminate and further develop digital Television in Germany.

Fincons Group has played a pivotal role in the development of HbbTV technology in Europe – the standard aimed at harmonising the broadcast and broadband delivery of entertainment services to consumers through connected TVs, set-top boxes and multiscreen devices - and has contributed to define best-practice in the new US ATSC 3.0 standard. The company is thus well placed to make a significant contribution to Deutsche TV-Plattform, while continuing to scout for new broadcast technologies and to acquire new skills in the field by working with major players in Italy and Europe.

What's New:

Sonnet Technologies today announced the launch of the Echo™ Express SE IIIe, the newest member of the company's award-winning Echo Express family of Thunderbolt™ 3 to PCI Express® (PCIe®) card expansion systems. The Echo Express SE IIIe is a compact desktop chassis that enables the use of up to three high-performance PCIe cards with computers equipped with Thunderbolt 3 ports. Replacing the popular Echo Express SE III, the SE IIIe supports AJA's complete family of KONA audio and video I/O solutions, including KONA 5, and has been upgraded with the addition of an auxiliary power connector to support cards that require more power to operate, and a new cooling fan for quieter operation.

"A portable video capture and playback setup is a necessity today for most video pros, and the Echo Express SE IIIe, with support for AJA KONA PCIe cards, provides great flexibility. The new auxiliary power connector is an exciting addition, allowing professionals to harness the power of Thunderbolt 3 connectivity with AJA KONA 5 with a smaller form factor PCIe card enclosure."

- Nick Rashby, President, AJA Video Systems
