Today, both Drake and Flavell actively rely on Miller's Air Tripod System to help set the scenes of their visionary work. While Drake spends most days in London, creating recipes for Hello Fresh, a company he co-founded that delivers recipes and the exact fresh ingredients needed to cook those recipes directly to shoppers' doors, Flavell is currently making her mark in Italy, shooting her new travel mini-series, The Dolce Vita Diary.

For Drake, his main equipment goal was to find camera support technology that would assist him in bringing a cinematic quality to the recipe videos he creates. "While some Miller users may be capturing beautiful pan shots of majestic scenery with wide-angle lenses, my landscape is a plate of food. And the Air Tripod's dynamic height range, which can drop as low as just above floor level, allows me to get up-close and personal to my dishes to capture that mouthwatering feel that makes you want to reach into the image and grab the dish!"

Perfect for traveling light without compromise, Miller's Air Tripod Systems each consist of an Air Fluid Head, offering professionals authentic Miller fluid head pan and tilt technology, and a variant of the Solo 75 2-Stage Tripod, either carbon fibre or alloy. The Air Fluid Head, composed of magnesium alloy housing and precision components, comes with two positions of selectable counterbalance and a dual pan handle option. Both systems have the ability to support payloads ranging from two kilograms to five kilograms.

"Nothing I do is choreographed," Flavell adds, "which means that I need a system that is portable enough to run around with, can be set up on the fly and still creates the cinematic effect that I need. The Air Tripod ticks all of those boxes."

When Patrick Met Kylie: A Love (of Food) Story is currently airing in approximately 68 countries across the globe. The couple's second series together, Amore al Dente, is slated to air in Canada later this year, along with Flavell's The Dolce Vita Diary, which will hit Canadian screens in January 2015.

Why MADI is Still Relevant
Stephen Brownsill While the original idea for MADI was to cater to a very narrow recording studio application, the standard remains a viable go-to multichannel audio technology. Beginning as a standard in 1991, MADI was first introduced to the world as digital production was beginning to come of age. MADI was put together in 1988 by Solid State Logic, AMS-Neve, Sony (DASH) and Mitsubishi (ProDigi) as a way to transport up to 56 channels of digital audio between large-format audio consoles of the day and digital multi-channel tape machines via 75-Ohm coaxial cables. Both tape-based machines have long since disappeared from the equipment landscape.

The University of the Third Age
Bernard Newnham Here's a cliché - "We all get to be old one day - if we're lucky". There comes a point when things like "....mastered in Dolby Vision Domestic and SDR Rec 709....." become just a touch unimportant (and actually I never really understood that stuff in the first place). I retired for the third time last year - BBC producer, and before that cameraman, then freelance producer, trainer, do-your-own camera, sound, editor, blah blah, then 11 years university teaching. I did my bit - never a BAFTA, but certainly the first into a good few things - but it all has to come to an end sometime.

REVIEW Canon UJ111x8_3B UHD Lens
Andy McKenzie Shooting in ultra high definition and high dynamic range has become the preferred option for all television productions with a potentially long commercial life. The hir-ing charge and indeed the outright purchase cost of cameras of this standard are not significantly greater than those of high definition standard dynamic range models. With half the world's news reporters now able to capture UHD video on their mobile phones, why give the production crews anything less?

The Future of Broadcast Connectivity
Jamie Adkin The use of KVM equipment has been essential to meet the evolving needs of the broadcast industry for many years. Over that time, many in the industry have recognised the importance of using IP-enabled KVM to break down technological barriers and enable real-time access to visuals wherever and whenever they’re needed. These components are vital parts in live production environments in particular.
