The Rapids Rise Again as Antix Digital Acquires Live Streaming and Compression Portfolio from Imagine Communications Posted: 01/02/2021
The Rapids Rise Again as Antix Digital Acquires Live Streaming and Compression Portfolio from Imagine Communications

The technology behind one of the most respected brands that helped ignite today’s streaming media landscape is back as an independent, sharply-focused company again, as newly-formed Antix Digital has acquired the live streaming and compression solutions portfolio from Imagine Communications. Led by Tony Huang, the former head of product management for the same product family at Digital Rapids, Antix will accelerate future development of the solutions while taking over service and support for existing customers and systems.

The transaction encompasses software-based compression, processing and streaming solutions that enable customers to efficiently and profitably engage audiences across delivery platforms ranging from mobile and OTT services to linear broadcast and cable channels. The foundation of the storied product line was developed by pioneering streaming solutions developer Digital Rapids, which Imagine Communications acquired in 2014. Imagine continued to evolve the portfolio with enhanced features and new products, but with streaming media delivery now entrenched in today’s society far beyond commercial media and entertainment applications, Antix plans to bring the product line to broader markets.

The transaction also marks the return of the portfolio’s original “StreamZ” product branding. Imagine will continue to sell the Antix-acquired products to their customers as a non-exclusive Antix reseller.

Anevia Adds Multi-tiered Storage to its Cloud DVR Storage Offering Posted: 20/05/2020
Anevia Adds Multi-tiered Storage to its Cloud DVR Storage Offering

Anevia announces the addition of multi-tiered storage to its Cloud DVR storage offering, Embedded Distributed Storage (EDS). This new feature makes EDS even more cost-efficient and scalable while also enabling storage in the cloud – meaning the solution becomes both flexible and elastic.

TV service providers are increasingly enriching their VOD content and need to expand their storage capacity without a commensurate increase in the number of users. The original hyper-convergent design of the scalable, high-performance EDS calls for more servers to be added to increase streaming and storage capacity in parallel. Multi-tiered storage means it is now possible to also increase storage capacity independently of streaming capacity.

With only a small fraction of the VOD catalogue being consumed regularly, long-tail content can be stored more efficiently and cost-effectively on general-purpose ‘cold storage’ support used by the IT departments. This eliminates the need to buy new servers and the related software licences, cutting both the complexity and the cost of scaling for a given number of users.

The newly introduced feature also enables object storage, which opens up the possibility of storing in the public or private cloud. This brings the advantages of scalability, flexibility and elasticity.
