DNAV Selects Ben Ackerman as Software and Field Services Engineer

DNAV, a full-service consultation firm, systems integrator and representative for Sierra Automated Systems (SAS) and other manufacturers specializing in broadcast, audio-visual, and public safety systems, has hired Ben Ackerman as Software and Field Services Engineer effective immediately. Ben is a versatile specialist who will cover regional field service work and software programming for SAS products and other networked radio systems.

Based in Rochester, NY, Ben comes to DNAV after a seven-year tenure at WXXI Public Broadcasting Council (Rochester’s local NPR and PBS member station), where grew from an intern into the role of Broadcast Engineer over the years. He worked closely with engineering staff to help design and maintain broadcast systems for WXXI-FM/AM/TV, WRUR-FM, WEOS-FM, WITH-FM, and WXXY-FM.

Along with his extensive experience designing and implementing custom solutions, Ben’s Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, with an emphasis on human-computer interaction and media in the digital age, well-prepare him for his unique dual role with DNAV.

“As one of those rare talents who knows both broadcast engineering and software development, Ben will help DNAV fulfill its role as a full-service dealer, installer, and technical services provider,” says Daniel Hyatt, Principal of DNAV.“Ben, along with other recently hired employees in sales, engineering and field services, will help DNAV build a strong foundation for continued growth and regional expansion.”

Ben’s duties at DNAV are two-fold. As a Field Services Engineer, he joins an expanding team of regional field technicians expands DNAV’s service reach into new areas. His duties include traveling to assist with radio station integrations and maintaining transmitter sites in Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse. His integration work will include installing SAS systems along with other equipment.

Ben will help to develop new software and work on existing software solutions, including SAS’s recently announced Global Connect, a complete on-premises and cloud solution that represents a software-based NOC for radio broadcasters to operate, maintain and monitor devices across local and remote facilities.

“We arethrilledto leverage Ben’s knowledge earned on the front lines of the broadcast industry to close the gap between broadcast manufacturers and the intuitive software features they want to see in their own products,” adds Nick Straka, principal of DNAV.

“I love being right at the forefront of the radio industry, whichis exactly where DNAV is positioned at this moment based on the quality and expanse of the work they do,” said Ackerman. “It’s exciting to develop new technologies and to apply concepts I learned as an engineer to solve long-running problems for the industry at large, and not just for the station I happened to be working for at the time. It’s an opportunity to spread my talents to broadcasters everywhere.”
