Olympusat CEO Tom Mohler Lauds Upgrade to PlayBox Neo Version 19 Channel-in-a-Box

Olympusat CEO Tom Mohler applauds PlayBox Neo’s completion of a large-scale playout system upgrade for Olympusat, a leading provider of broadcast media services. The project includes the enhancement of 26 servers to the latest-generation Version 19 Channel-in-a-Box Neo, TitleBoxNeo and SafeBox Neo.

"We invested in PlayBox Neo Channel-in-a-Box two years ago with an installation at our engineering center in Culver City, California, and we are very pleased with it," said Olympusat Operations Manager Michael Kohl. "Van Duke and his colleagues at PlayBox Neo worked closely with us during the original install to integrate our existing ad sales management tools. Upgrading to Neo-19 software makes our workflow even more efficient. The PlayBox Neo team has added extra engineering features including support for SCTE commands and N+M redundancy."

Olympusat CEO Tom Mohler congratulated both the Olympusat and Playbox teams for the seamless upgrade process: “I want to thank both sides for their teamwork and professionalism as we continue to deliver high quality content to our network audiences."

AMS Neve Launches A New Hardware Version of The Iconic RMX16 Posted: 13/01/2020
AMS Neve Launches A New Hardware Version of The Iconic RMX16

Nearly 40 years since making its debut, the iconic AMS RMX16 Digital Reverberation System has been relaunched in hardware format as part of AMS Neve’s popular rack mounted 500 Series.

The RMX16 500 Digital Reverb Module delivers all the musicality of its famous predecessor, but at a fraction of the price. Furthermore, this new unit incorporates the nine programmes that came as standard with the original AMS RMX16, PLUS the nine rare aftermarket programs that were only available to users via a remote control with bar code reader input.

“We are very excited to be bringing back the much loved and instantly recognizable sound that made the original AMS RMX16 everyone’s favourite ‘go to’ reverb,” says AMS Neve’s Distribution Manager David Walton. “Its unique sound has characterized an enormous number of seminal recordings from the 1980s onwards. Indeed, the AMS RMX16 has remained such an essential piece of kit for any self-respecting world-class studio that vintage units still sell for a substantial proportion of their original cost.”

The new RMX16 500 comes in a 3-slot wide format and retails at USD1,295/GBP995 making it a much more affordable proposition for a far wider user base. It is simple to operate with 18 factory programs including the unmistakeable Ambience, Nonlin and Reverse, simulating different reverberant environments, with the ability to control all parameters.

Watch, Click and Buy: Promethean powers True-Iwedia latest Set Top Box with interactive video solution

Promethean, a digital solution to dynamically programme interactive video overlays, has announced its collaboration with True Digital Group, the South East Asian leader in content and digital platforms, to release the new version of the TrueID TV Box application across South East Asia.

TrueID TV Box is the new set top box from one of Southeast Asia’s leading Pay TV platform operators (part of the CP Group) that enables viewers to watch sports and entertainment on live, linear and on-demand basis without the hassle of installation. The latest box release is expected to roll out to thousands of homes across the Christmas period. It is the country's first Android TV Box that meets Google standards, which crucially now includes the certification of Promethean Interactive Overlays. This enables True Digital Group to create a conduit between content and commerce for their TrueID TV Box users.

Promethean is an online platform for dynamically programming interactive video overlays for live and video content on the web, mobile and OTT platforms. It licences a tool that allows broadcasters to place contextual and relevant overlays onto live streams and VOD, delivering engaging customer interactions that drive measurable ROI. Promethean's solution is player agnostic and as such supports a wide range of third party players available today out of the box.

"We've been using the Promethean technology across our websites and mobile apps since the summer, which has led to double-digit click through rates and some very compelling advertising campaigns with great regional brands,” commented Reed Anderson, CTO at True Digital Group. "As we were building our new TrueID TV Box, we wanted to demonstrate the convergence between the viewing experience and the opportunities afforded by connectivity - and that means allowing the audience to interact with the content, whether through man of the match polls or the ability to order food for delivery straight from your TV."

Visual Data Media Services invests and pound;250k in State-of-the-Art Cinema and Mastering facilities Posted: 14/11/2019
Visual Data Media Services invests and pound;250k in State-of-the-Art Cinema and Mastering facilities

Visual Data Media Services, the leading provider of digital supply chain services to global content owners and distributors, has announced the opening of a cutting-edge digital cinema at its leading facility in West London, UK.

The new cinema is fully 4K and Dolby Atmos capable and comprises a 10-seat theatre built around a NEC 4 projector and fed by a Doremi digital cinema server. A Dolby Atmos CP950 sound processor is linked to 28x JBL speakers and 14x 1KW Crown amplifiers.

Of particular interest is the 4-meter-wide acoustically transparent woven fabric screen. This is designed to Dolby and THX standards, and allows users to hear the cinema audio without the distraction of the perforations that are typically required to allow the sound from speakers mounted behind the screen to travel into the auditorium.

“This is the final time that many of our clients will see their film before it is distributed to the cinema network and it’s important that they have no visual distractions and are also assured that they’re reviewing their content in a high-end and fully calibrated environment,” explains David Margolis, Director of Digital Cinema at Visual Data Media Services.

DVB Approves DVB-I Specification, an Internet-Centric Solution for Linear Television Services Posted: 13/11/2019
DVB Approves DVB-I Specification, an Internet-Centric Solution for Linear Television Services

DVB, an industry consortium that develops open, interoperable technical specifications for the delivery of digital media and broadcast services, today announced the approval of its DVB-I specification by the DVB Steering Board in Geneva. It has been published as DVB BlueBook A177.

The DVB-I specification aims to ensure that linear television delivered over the internet is as user-friendly and robust as a traditional broadcast television experience. It offers the possibility for linear television services to be delivered to any device with a suitable internet connection and media player, including TV sets, smartphones, tablets and media streaming devices.

"In developing an internet-centric solution for linear television services, we are providing the industry with a crucial missing piece that raises internet-based delivery to the same level in the DVB ecosystem as RF-based content delivery," said DVB Chair Peter MacAvock. "With these building blocks, addressing the discovery of DVB-I services and the delivery of programme metadata, DVB offers broadcasters and operators an exciting new deployment option."

The DVB-I specification defines DVB-I Service Lists, a means for internet-connected devices to find curated sets of linear television services that may be delivered through broadband or broadcast mechanisms. It also defines the methods to retrieve electronic programme data for those services, which can be integrated into a single coherent offering that is accessed through a consistent user interface.
