Viacom International Media Networks deploys Hitomi MatchBox for 2019 MTV Europe Music Awards Posted: 19/11/2019
Viacom International Media Networks deploys Hitomi MatchBox for 2019 MTV Europe Music Awards

Hitomi Broadcast, manufacturer of MatchBox, the industry’s leading audio video alignment technologies, today announced that Viacom International Media Networks Media and Technology Services (MTS) used MatchBox for the 2019 MTV Europe Music Awards in Seville, Spain, on 3 November.

Viacom International MTS deployed MatchBox’s sync toolbox for the red carpet, main award show, backstage, and after-show party feeds, televised on 100+ channels worldwide from the FIBES Conference and Exhibition Centre in Seville. Hosted by American singer, songwriter, and actress, Becky G, the show included a special headline performance, filmed by Viacom International the previous night at the MTV World Stage at Plaza de España in Seville, by ‘Best Rock’ nominee, Green Day.

Viacom International MTS Global Lead Systems Engineer for Studio and Production Technology, Matt Okotie, said, “Using MatchBox, I can sync signals in under a millisecond to ensure that before we go to air, lip sync is correct. This is crucial for any production, but particularly for a live, globally distributed event, so you have to be absolutely sure you get it right. That’s why I leave it to MatchBox. Basically, if MatchBox reads ‘zero’, you know that lip sync is perfect.”

Viacom International MTS used MatchBox to sync its 4K/UHD feed from Seville to London, and then on for a global sync to all the other MatchBox readers around the world.

GB Labs and Trams target new market sectors for storage solutions

GB Labs, innovators of powerful and intelligent storage solutions for the media and entertainment industries, has formalised a storage systems partnership with Trams Ltd, the award-winning IT solutions provider.

GB Labs and Trams have already enjoyed success in selling and supporting GB Labs systems to some of Trams’ top customers, primarily to the media industry, but increasingly outside that sector.

GB Labs CEO-CTO Dominic Harland said, “Coupled with the depth and breadth of Trams IT experience in media, business, and education, it’s an excellent meeting of minds, markets, and technologies that deliver substantial benefits to customers of both companies. We’re also taking a very close look at jointly developing our respective offerings for the sports market, always a major driver of technical innovation.”

Created and enhanced to help improve demanding workflows - with the added benefit of saving users time and money - the intelligent features included in GB Labs systems are the award-winning Mosaic automatic asset organiser; Analytics Centre, and brand-new CORE.4 and CORE.4 Lite OS software.

Mosaic automatic asset organisation software integrates with AI tagging systems to automatically scour metadata, providing powerful search and highly intuitive retrieval without manual intervention. Analytics Centre provides highly useful network visibility, enabling users to see at a glance how data is being used, and by whom.

Record numbers of exhibitors at KitPlus Show MediaCityUK Posted: 25/10/2019
Record numbers of exhibitors at KitPlus Show MediaCityUK

KitPlus Show, MediaCityUK, Manchester 5 November: A record number of exhibitors, ready to demonstrate leading products, services, and technologies from more than 100 brands – many for the first time - will be on hand at the ninth annual KitPlus Show MediaCityUK.

Simon Tillyer, KitPlus Show says, “Having recognised that people are increasingly less able or willing to travel long distances to shows, we decided a long time ago to take KitPlus Show to regional media hubs such as Glasgow, Bristol and Manchester. The concept is to give visitors the opportunity to see the very latest in new kit without having to travel far in a friendly, relaxed environment, and it doesn’t cost a thing.

“As well as getting hands on with new kit and speaking directly with manufacturers, there are workshops, training sessions and seminars throughout the day together with excellent networking opportunities. The emphasis is on creating quality time, and the exchange of quality information, both of which are far more readily available at these regional shows than during the crush of major trade shows.”

These free-to-attend events host many of the top names in the business, including EditshareBlackmagic Design, CanonJVCNewTekPanasonic, and many more.

In addition, Cinegy has now optimised its entire product line to be 8K-ready and deployed in the cloud. Starfish provides compliance recording to The National Library of Sweden Posted: 16/10/2019
Starfish provides compliance recording to The National Library of Sweden

Starfish Technologies, a pioneer in transport stream processing and advertising insertion, has supplied a multi-channel compliance recording system to Kungliga biblioteket, The National Library of Sweden in Stockholm, Sweden, in cooperation with Starfish’s Swedish partner Lanlink Digital Broadcast.

The system utilises Starfish’s ‘Verify’ compliance recording technology which can record multiple channels of live TV broadcast and features a fully managed system with auto failover. Built using generic IT hardware from HP, it includes the Starfish web-based monitoring application to view and manage the operation of the N+N configuration. Input signals are presented as encoded transport streams from both the satellite and terrestrial feeds for each channel automatically switching between the two feeds when detecting a missing input.

Starfish Marketing Director Peter Blatchford said, “We have been building systems in Sweden for many years with companies such as TV4 and Red Bee Media and are delighted to have been chosen to now supply The National Library of Sweden. The Starfish Verify Compliance Recording System is highly configurable and utilises our expertise with transport stream processing and web based system monitoring’.
