The Centro Televisivo Vaticano (CTV Vatican Television Centre) has announced a major overhaul of the equipment used for its live footage capture. By this autumn, their OB-8 OB truck will be fully kitted out with 4K technology and will feature eight Sony HDC-4300 cameras, a 4K PWS-4400 server and a 4K MVS-7000X switcher. The mobile unit will be unveiled on 8 December 2015 at a truly unique occasion: the opening ceremony of the Holy Door at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, which will mark the start of the extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. The event will be filmed in 4K Ultra HD and High Dynamic Range (HDR), delivering an immersive experience. HDR is all about trying to capture, deliver and display images in a way that is as close to the performance of the human eye as possible.

Sony technology brings the canonization of Blessed John XXIII and John Paul II in 4K

The ceremony to mark the canonization of Blessed John XXIII and John Paul II will take place on 27 April in St Peter's Square, Vatican City, and will be broadcast in 4K Ultra HD using Sony PMW-F55 cameras in a studio set-up. The occasion presents a new and important opportunity to put the revolutionary characteristics of 4K to the test, not only in terms of production but also in terms of enriching the quality of archived content. The event will be produced by the Vatican Television Centre (CTV) in partnership with Sony and Sky Italia, and with technological support from DBW Communication and Eutelsat. The event will be broadcast live in 4K at the Paul VI Audience Hall in the Vatican. Thanks to our partner, Prevost Srl, there will also be a live 3D broadcast of the event in Sotto il Monte Giovanni XXIII, the birthplace of Pope John XXIII, using a Sony SRX-R515P projector. As a result of collaboration between Sony, Sky Italia and Eutelsat, spectators will be able to experience the moment in 3D and feel as if they were in St Peter's Square.

Unprecedented documentary with Sachtler artemis DV Pro MD Vatican - the hidden world Posted: 12/05/2011
Unprecedented documentary with Sachtler artemis DV Pro MD Vatican - the hidden world Director and screenwriter Richard Ladkani spent almost three years working on his unprecedented documentary about the Vatican. For some shoots, he worked with the artemis DV Pro MD from Sachtler, a Vitec Group brand. The artemis camera stabilizer system ensures perfectly balanced camera movements.

Richard Ladkani and his team received a half-hour film permit for the most sacred place in the Vatican the Necropolis underneath St. Peter's Basilica. They accompanied a cardinal who led them through the Necropolis. The footage taken during this tour is one of the highlights of the documentary "Vatican The Hidden World." Richard Ladkani used the artemis DV Pro MD camera stabilizer system from Sachtler, outfitted with a Sony EX3 for filming in the intricate centuries-old corridors.
