Imperial War Museums Integrate Spectra StorCycle Software to Advance Digitisation and Preservation of Invaluable Historical Assets

Spectra Logic today announced thatImperial War Museums(IWM) deployedSpectra StorCycle®Storage Lifecycle Management Softwareto enhance its existing storage infrastructure, which supports its audio-visual and exhibitions departments to preserve invaluable data, including thousands of films, videotapes, audio recordings and photographs that would otherwise disintegrate and be lost forever were they not digitised. StorCycle software is being used to manage a large amount of unstructured data that resides on expensive SAN and NAS storage outside of IWM’s existing DAMS (digital asset management system) platform.IWM has five sites across the UK, IWM London, IWM North, IWM Duxford, Churchill War Rooms and HMS Belfast, and is home to approximately 750,000 digital assets, representing a total of 1.5PB of data as uncompressed files. This volume is constantly growing, with new scans in the Museums’ film collection generating an additional 10TB of data per month, and its videotape scanning project expected to create more than 900TB of data over the next four years.

CJP Broadcast Completes Studio System Relocation for Core London TV Posted: 28/01/2021
CJP Broadcast Completes Studio System Relocation for Core London TV

CJP Broadcast announces the completion of a system relocation project for Core London TV. CJP provided de-rig and installation services, assisting the move from studio premises near Victoria station.

"The building Core occupied in Victoria was due for complete refurbishment so there was a tight timeline to get the new studio up and running," says CJP Broadcast MD Chris Phillips. "We were approached because some of our engineers were part of the TSL team which installed the original system. Our role was to decommission control room cabling at the Victoria studio, then install and test the system in new production headquarters at 215-221 Borough High Street. The new system was fully up and running by mid December, just two weeks from commencing the move."

CJP Broadcast Launches StreamSmart+, Club-Owned Online TV Service for Sports Posted: 21/01/2021
CJP Broadcast Launches StreamSmart+, Club-Owned Online TV Service for Sports

CJP Broadcast announces the launch of StreamSmart+, a flexibly defined service enabling sports clubs to launch their own television channel quickly, easily and affordably.

"StreamSmart+ is a complete glass-to-glass solution including latest-generation equipment, fully focused operational training and all relevant supporting services," says CJP Broadcast MD Chris Phillips. "Operating an online TV channel allows sports clubs to extend their visibility both locally and globally. It is also a potential revenue source both for clubs and their sponsors. Unlike free to air services such as YouTube, a properly managed online TV channel retains full control over all its content, independent of commercials that might otherwise compete with sponsors' brands."

"The service is based on nearly 10 years of experience we have gained as an SI. That includes partnering with various sports organisations from grassroots level up to major event finals across football, cricket and rugby."

"Initially adopted to offset the impact of coronavirus restrictions on audience attendance, online TV has now proved itself a logical expansion path for sports clubs of every size. Live streaming allows clubs to televise entire matches including supporting titles, subtitles, close-ups, action replays, slow-motion, ad-insertion, sponsor logos, visual effects plus live sound, commentary and supporting news."

CJP Broadcast Reports a Turbulent but Successful 2020 Posted: 02/12/2020
CJP Broadcast Reports a Turbulent but Successful 2020

Multimedia systems integrator, equipment specialist and service provider CJP Broadcast reports a challenging but successful 2020.

“2020 was expected to be the year when 8K became a practical resolution for future-focused TV and digital cine content producers,” comments CJP Broadcast MD Chris Phillips. “Instead the media world, like everyone else, had to face the upheaval of a pandemic. The consequent restrictions on social gathering had one positive effect in encouraging organisations with a strong membership base to explore the potential of television. We’ve been working with several football clubs by making their matches accessible to fans who would otherwise have attended in person. We also successfully completed a video production and live streaming project for the highest-profile semi-finals and final in the UK football calendar. This solution centred on our Live Sports Production System which was deployed to augment the traditional broadcast coverage with behind-the-scenes content. The resultant video content was then made available online for easy access by supporters during and after each match.”
