Reflection on BVE

As we complete another two tradeshows we thought why not take the time to reflect back on our experience of the BE Expo and Cabsat Dubai.

After our experience in 2018 of BVE we were sceptical about how successful the show would be for us. With the usual big names missing from the exhibitor line up who knew how it would affect footfall. Well, it quickly proved to be as popular a show as ever. We were greeted by many long term industry colleagues and saw the next generation of students and post-grads coming in hard and fast. Whilst they may not be working on a big project right now it’s always promising to see enthusiasm in the industry trends and one of them has to be the next big Hollywood DoP don’t they!

Our BVE stand was a collaboration of studio services from Bristol VFX, Mo-Sys, RT Software and Photon Beard. Working together we could build a fully functional green screen studio in the exhibition hall. This was a very popular stand and we certainly found visitors appreciated being able to see the full effect of each element. A truly immersive experience which we hope set a few creative cogs in motion for new studio set ups.

We had some very positive feedback on our products, in particular about how we don’t offer unnecessary features but focus instead on the best quality light for broadcast purposes. This has always been a top priority for us and it’s great to hear it is appreciated by end users too. The Solo kit, which we launched in 2018 also got a lot of attention, as a simple, affordable, quality kit it was a popular product for colleges and universities. Built exclusively using the PB80 LED redhead it is a kit you can buy and use throughout your career. A real cornerstone kit for any lighting director.

Moving onto Cabsat Dubai, whilst we didn’t exhibit it is always a great show for networking with our customers and dealers from further afield and that is exactly what we did. Peter Daffarn (Aka - Mr Lighting) was walking the floor and had many positive meetings both for business and leisure. The studio broadcast industry is thriving in the Middle East and Asia and we expect to be kept very busy in the coming months.

With NAB and the Media Production show just around the corner there’s no time to rest here at Photon Beard HQ. It’s been a very pleasing start to the tradeshow year with hopefully more successes to come in the year ahead.
