QCommunications Takes Flight with the Launch of its Airborne Division Manned by Company and rsquo;s QForce

QCommunications (QComm), a leading engineering project management and installation vendor specializing in The Spectrum Act (REPACK project), has announced the launch of its Airborne Division. The Airborne Division, established to answer the growing demand for safe and accurate signal verification and to maximize product optimizations, will use state-of-the-art, custom made sUAS’s (drones) with proprietary RF software as an added benefit and verification tool to serve and support the broadcast industry.

Leveraging a partnership with SixArms, an innovative company based in Australia that produces efficient, accurate and cost-effective measurement solutions via cutting-edge unmanned aerial vehicle technologies, The Airborne Division utilizes proven signal verification and coverage mapping technology to capture the characterizations of antenna systems. This system allows measurements of Horizontal Radiation Patterns (HRP), Vertical Radiation Patterns (VRP), Effective Radiated Patterns (ERP), polarization discriminations and many other specific modulation parameters while providing overall uncertainties in the order of 1-2dB. QComm’s Airborne Division will be one of just two SixArm certified “operators” within the United States.

Phil Larsen, one of leading subject matter experts in vertical inspection by way of UAV in a RF environment, will serve at the helm of the Airborne Division as vice president. Larsen will be responsible for leading the QForce team – an elite group of specialists tapped to operate, service and support the new division. Larsen’s career dates back over a decade and includes extensive experience designing solutions and advising the telecommunication industry on the benefits of using UAV’s. Larsen previously worked for the DoD, NSA, CIA, Navy and other governmental agencies globally and brings with him an exceptional background and understanding of the safe, accurate and overall benefits this technology will deliver to QComm customers.

“The use of a properly designed and technologically equipped sUA system can greatly enhance the real understanding and effectiveness of our customers’ products while bringing added security, safety and awareness to the geographical locations where these products reside, thus reducing assumptions and needless human climbs,” explained Larsen.

QComm was established in 2006 focused on working within the broadcast industry as a median between the FCC and station operators. Over the last 14 years QComm has led the initiative to always be on the front lines working on behalf of their customers ensuring sound deliverables, new regulation breakdown, product performance insurance and maximizing optimization; all of which is substantiated by years of experience and proficient back-end project management teams led by Tony ZumMallen, president, and John Owen, CTO . In 2020 QComm affirmed its commitment to continue working on the front lines and has served in a primary role with the Repack project - instrumental in the final repack rules and ongoing operations. To date, QComm has repacked over 75 transmitters providing services that range from initial form 399 and evaluation to installation and FCC true-up.

Commented zumMallen, “The Airborne Division is the result of QCommunications’ years of experience combined with state-of-the-art technology. It’s designed to fully inform and maximize all aspects of our customers products and exceed their expectations as we strengthen our commitment to the broadcast industry and ensure the longevity of secure and essential communications.”
