PGL Esports works with Make.TV to increase viewership, engagement and monetize reruns

Make.TV, used by leaders in news, esports, sports and entertainment to handle live video in the cloud has announced that it is working with leading esports event organiser PGL Esports to help it monetize past broadcasts and increase viewership during off seasons.

Founded in 2002, PGL Esports handles event organization, studio and video production, as well as TV and online streaming for international esports tournaments. Over the years it has produced dozens of grand-scale esports tournaments for Dota 2, CS:GO, PUBG, Hearthstone, Quake Champions and FIFA, reaching millions of fans around the world.

PGL Esports will be using Make.TV’s Playout to deliver re-runs of past broadcasts on its Twitch channel. In addition to delivering exciting esport content to loyal fans who couldn’t view matches first time around, PGL will also use Make.TV’s Playout to monetize audience streams by triggering ad breaks.

"Whether it is fans coming back for the nail-biting drama or avid gamers trying to study the strategy of professionals, many viewers are nostalgic about past shows” said PGL Esports CEO Silviu Stroie. “Make.TV allows our fans to relive these moments by enabling us to broadcast archived footage across any platform, while at the same time empowering us to open up new revenue models through cross-platform advertising. We are looking forward to working with Make.TV to explore more innovative ways to deliver content in the future.”

“PGL Esports has played a significant role in shaping the development of what professional esports looks like today. We are excited to be helping PGL breathe new life into archive footage, making it more accessible to fans and enabling new advertising opportunities” said Andreas Jacobi, CEO and co-founder at Make.TV.

Make.TV’s Playout module is a cloud-based scheduler and playout solution, enabling content owners to create TV programs with a mix of pre-produced content and acquired live or near-live streams. It enables producers to easily schedule ad breaks via multiple networks, including linear and digital broadcast, social media or OTT at the same time, including popular esports platforms such as Mixer, Twitch, YouTube and Smash.gg.
