German post-production specialist OMNIMAGO GmbH, has chosenXytech’s MediaPulse resource management software as its go-to solution for its scheduling, billing and project management needs.

Recently released at IBC 2019, MediaPulse 2019 features an updated user interface developed to place targeted functionality in the hands of all users in an enterprise, including every staff member, freelancer and vendor to create a seamless end-to-end automated workflow accessible on any device connected to the internet.

All-in-One Solution

Headquartered in Ingelheim with a second location in Leipzig, OMNIMAGO is a leading media service company, working with public and commercial TV broadcasters, film and TV companies, and industrial enterprises. Its services range from classic post-production services for film and television companies to tap mass digitalization and digital film restoration projects for international film archives.

Given the variety of projects OMNIMAGO takes on, it was integral the company found a solution to contain the whole process, from bidding to invoicing, within the same system.

“This ensures all of the necessary information is easily available to all of the people and departments involved,” said Peter Fries, OMNIMAGO’s Managing Director. “MediaPulse has proven itself as the ultimate tool to support us during the administration process on all of our technical projects.”

Currently holding 45 MediaPulse licenses, OMNIMAGO has been using MediaPulse for almost 20 years and selected the software for its best-in-class efficiency.

“It fulfills all of our scheduling, billing and project management requirements in the best possible way,” Fries said. “We took a number of other established ERP systems into consideration, but nothing compared to the efficiency of MediaPulse.”

Film students at FAMU in Prague get a lesson in audio with Calrec Brio console Posted: 03/12/2019
Film students at FAMU in Prague get a lesson in audio with Calrec and rsquo;s Brio console

The Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague has purchased its first digital console - a Brio36 - from Calrec. It’s being used for various projects including automated dialogue replacement/voiceovers in the school’s recording room.

Martin Kebrdle, Head of the Sound Department Studio at FAMU, explained that the school needed a powerful console that could be used with Avid Pro Tools on several applications. “The console is connected to Pro Tools with MADI cards. In the future we plan to add Calrec’s Hydra2 networking. The console is perfect for our needs; it’s compact and it has been incredibly easy for the students to learn — which has been a blessing since this is the first time many of them are using a digital audio console. The Brio is a great introduction into the world of digital audio recording for our students.”

FAMU is the fifth oldest film school in the world and was founded in 1947. As part of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, FAMU is composed of eleven departments, where students can achieve their bachelors, masters and doctoral degree in every discipline of filmmaking including: directing, documentary filmmaking, scriptwriting, dramaturgy, animated film, cinematography, sound design, editing, production, photography, and the interdisciplinary Center of Audiovisual Studies. The Brio is installed in the school’s sound direction room. The sale and installation were handled by Calrec’s distributor Mediatronik S.R.O.

“The fact that the Brio is being used by students to help them prepare for careers in audio clearly shows the Brio’s versatility. It’s not simply a console for broadcasters; it’s useful for many applications and awards relevant experience for those learning an audio discipline,” commented Mike Reddick, International Sales Manager, Calrec.

KRK Limited Edition ROKIT G4 White Noise Monitors Now Available Posted: 02/12/2019
KRK Limited Edition ROKIT G4 and ldquo;White Noise and rdquo; Monitors Now Available

KRK Systems, part of the Gibson family of brands, is adding a new family of studio monitors to its latest ROKIT Generation 4 (G4) range, the limited edition ROKIT G4 White Noise. Available in 5-, 7-, and 8-inch bi-amp models, these stylish limited-edition monitors offer the same impressive features as the newly released ROKIT G4s, but with an enticingly different aesthetic. Art and science come together with the new White Noise editions of these professional monitors, taking music and sound creativity to a whole new industry-level.

Providing wide, deep and dynamic listening, along with incredible imaging, KRK’s ROKIT G4 studio monitors have been scientifically re-engineered and re-designed from the ground up. They are ideally suited to the way modern artists work—in all genres and environments. The entire ROKIT G4 range features on-board DSP-driven Graphic EQ with 25 settings to help condition any acoustic environment while offering new levels of versatility in a studio monitor—making them the only monitors in their class with an LCD screen to display DSP-driven EQ settings. The flat setting is great for most environments, but low-, mid- and high-frequency presets can be adjusted to help compensate for common trouble spots in different sound environments. This on-board system works in conjunction with the KRK Audio Tools App, available for free on the Android and iOS stores.

Additionally, all system elements of the ROKIT G4 monitors are cohesively designed and engineered to work perfectly with their advanced drivers made with Kevlar®, efficient Class D power amplifiers and front-firing port, which offers exceptional low-end extension, punch and flexible room-positioning. These features collectively extend accurate and tight bass reproduction and improve audio integrity while minimizing listening fatigue—offering an overall balanced listening experience.

DPA New 4560 CORE Binaural Headset Microphone Simplifies Immersive Sound Capture Posted: 02/12/2019
DPA and rsquo;s New 4560 CORE Binaural Headset Microphone Simplifies Immersive Sound Capture

YouTubers, sound designers, podcasters, vloggers and other content creators, including filmmakers who want to capture authentic immersive audio for their projects, can now do so with ease thanks to the launch of the new 4560 CORE Binaural Headset Microphone from Danish manufacturer, DPA Microphones.

The new binaural headset delivers the superior sound quality for which DPA products are internationally renowned. The professional quality of the microphones allows them to capture, in real time, exactly what each ear is hearing so that those listening on headphones can experience the full immersive sound. These qualities are also appealing to other applications such as sound system documentation, soundscape analysis, sound quality assessment, and sound for theatrical productions or gaming, among others. Jazz and classical musicians have also seen the potential in this mic: recording the sound from the performers’ perspective instead of the audience’s is a completely new way of sharing the artists’ sound experience with fans. The result, an ultimate surround experience.

Customer demand for personalized TV services is spurring majority of broadcasters to offer tailored ads Posted: 28/11/2019
Customer demand for personalized TV services is spurring majority of broadcasters to offer tailored ads

Four-fifths (80%) of broadcasters are considering implementing ads tailored to the consumer but are increasingly falling behind streaming services due to hesitance around adopting cloud technologies, according to research carried out on behalf of ATEME, the emerging leader in video delivery solutions for broadcast, cable, DTH, IPTV and OTT.

The survey of those in middle management positions or above within the realms of TV and broadcast also found that 96% of broadcasters feel there is a demand from customers for more personalized services. As over a third (34%) of broadcasters currently generate revenue through adverts, offering personalized adverts could help them increase this revenue. Consequently, over a quarter (26%) are currently looking into how to offer these services to customers.

“Our research found that more than half (58%) of broadcasters are investing up to 20% of their budget in trialing new customer content or services as they prioritize personalization to offer customers enhanced viewing experiences,” said Remi Beaudouin, Chief Strategy Officer, ATEME. “By using technology and the data available to them to tap into this trend, traditional broadcasters will be able to create a tailor-made viewing experience and potentially open up new revenue streams,” he added.

Gottschalks Big 80s Show travels back to the 80s with GLPs KNV system Posted: 28/11/2019
Gottschalks Big 80s Show travels back to the 80s with GLPs KNV system

The 80s … who doesn’t like remembering that decade? From a fashion perspective, it may not have sparkled, but musically the 80s undoubtedly had a lot to offer.

Thomas Gottschalk, who once again gathered a who's who of 80's cult stars at the TUI Arena in Hannover for Gottschalk's Big 80s Show, also clearly thinks that. Performances by Kim Wilde, Paul Young, Thomas Anders, Marc Almond and many more could be experienced on the set's four show stages, with the concert broadcast by ZDF.

Lighting cameraman / gaffer for the production was Michael Donecker. Frank Hofmann — better known as FH — from Scan Design Berlin was responsible for the show lighting design of a production that lasted for several hours. FH, who developed a penchant for lighting design early in life, today works predominantly for TV productions. He was clear from the outset exactly what requirements this special show would place on the production lighting design. "As the name implies, this was about the 80s and everything that made this time so exciting,” he said. “Therefore, I wanted to imitate the looks of those days but using modern technology."

AWS Elemental MediaLive Offers Statistical Multiplexing for Better Broadcast Quality, Performance, and Bandwidth Management Posted: 26/11/2019
AWS Elemental MediaLive Offers Statistical Multiplexing for Better Broadcast Quality, Performance, and Bandwidth Management

Statistical Multiplexing (Statmux) is now available with AWS Elemental MediaLive, Statmux is a technology used in live broadcast workflows that allocates bits in real time among multiple live video channels. It instantaneously adjusts the bitrate of each channel in the statmux pool to make the best use of total available bandwidth and combines the encoded outputs into a single transport stream. This maximizes network efficiency by optimizing picture quality for a group of channels within a fixed total bandwidth.

Using AWS Elemental MediaLive with Statmux, customers can now deploy linear video processing and playout in the AWS Cloud for broadcast, cable, or terrestrial distribution.

Media companies, such as national broadcasters, originate live content and simultaneously share that content with their distribution partners. Traditionally, this has been accomplished by preparing channels for distribution using purpose-built, on-premises hardware encoders. These systems can take months to procure and configure, require extensive engineering to operate reliably, and cannot be repurposed once deployed. AWS Elemental MediaLive with Statmux lets broadcasters and content providers build and manage broadcast video workflows on fully managed AWS services and gain flexibility, reduce hardware and management costs, and deliver excellent picture quality with built-in reliability.

Key benefits of AWS Elemental MediaLive with Statmux include:

  • Cloud flexibility—Add, remove, or update live channels based on evolving audience and business needs, easily introduce new codecs, prioritize resources on a per-channel basis, and take advantage of multiple codecs and resolutions.
  • Built-in resiliency—Resources are automatically allocated across multiple availability zones for high availability and fully managed failover.
  • High video quality—Statmux for MediaLive lets you maximize video quality while optimizing for fixed satellite or cable distribution bandwidth. And, you can tune quality settings on a per-channel basis without disruption to assure that the highest-priority channels maintain the highest quality.
  • Operational efficiency—Build broadcast distribution workloads in minutes, without on-premises hardware, and deliver channels more efficiently over fixed network bandwidth.
  • Monitoring and metrics—Integrated Amazon CloudWatch monitoring enables real-time views of video metrics and multiplexer performance.
  • Unified headend—For content providers that distribute traditional broadcast video as well as multiscreen linear video, Statmux for MediaLive can deliver both through a single architecture. With the increasing importance of OTT delivery, having one system to manage all encoding can dramatically simplify operations.

Learn more about how customers are saving time, reducing overhead, maximizing low-cost cloud resources, and maintaining optimized picture quality with AWS Elemental MediaLive and Statmux here: https://aws.amazon.com/medialive/features/statmux.

Composer Youki Yamamoto Feels Childish Delight in His New PMC Monitors Posted: 26/11/2019
Composer Youki Yamamoto Feels Childish Delight in His New PMC Monitors

No matter how old you are, it is always lovely when something excites you enough to feel like a child again – and that is exactly how renowned musician, composer and orchestrator Youki Yamamoto felt the first time he heard PMC monitors in his own studio.

Yamamoto has had a 15 year residence at Pinewood Studios where he creates his own music as well as other compositions for films and computer games. He is also equally at home in Katara Studios, Doha, which is where he first had the idea of investing in a pair of PMC monitors for his own facility.

After doing some research, he chose PMC MB2 monitors with a separate Class A Bryston amp because he felt this was the most versatile system for any kind of music. “I get all the lovely clarity and detail that PMC delivers, but I don’t get tired listening all day and the sound is so beautiful that I find it hard to leave the studio,” he says. “I just want to stay in there and keep working. It is almost like being with your first ever girlfriend!”

Videon EdgeCaster Edge Compute Encoder Compatibility With AWS Elemental MediaStore Enables a Cost-Effective, Low Latency Solution

Videon today announced compatibility with AWS Elemental MediaStore, enabling a cost-effective, low-latency solution. Videon customers can now use AWS Elemental MediaStore as a direct ingest from the EdgeCaster H.264/HEVC video encoding platform to support ultra-low latency workflows with outputs supporting both HLS and DASH using CMAF. AWS Elemental MediaStore's support of EdgeCaster's ingest protocols enables less than three-second worldwide latency to be achieved with standards-based, scalable, and cost-effective workflows.

"Live streaming should not come with a latency penalty as compared to traditional broadcast TV," said Todd Erdley, founder and CEO of Videon. "EdgeCaster's compatibility with AWS Elemental MediaStore is a strong step forward to making live streaming truly live —using standards-based, viewer-scalable, and cost-effective solutions. Compatibility with AWS Elemental MediaStore represents an important development in our relationship with Amazon Web Services. AWS Elemental offers crucial insight into how streams can be ingested into AWS Elemental MediaStore and how Videon can optimize our platform."
