Autodesk Accelerates Workflows Across Creative Tools

Autodesk unveiled updates to Maya, 3ds Max, and MotionBuilder today, bringing artists throughout the creative pipeline powerful new tools that accelerate and streamline their workflows. Among these updates is the much-anticipated USD plugin for Maya. First announced at SIGGRAPH 2018 as a joint effort with Pixar, Animal Logic, Luma Pictures, and Blue Sky Studios, USD is now seamlessly integrated in Maya, enabling artists to load and edit massive datasets at lightning speed. Maya’s animation, modeling, and rendering toolsets also see significant updates, bringing even more power, flexibility, and creative freedom to the daily work of professional artists.

Autodesk Packs Artist-Driven Features into Maya 2020 Release

Today, Autodesk announced the release of Autodesk Maya 2020, bringing animators, modelers, riggers, and technical artists a host of new tools and improvements that enable faster, more intuitive CG content creation from first concept to final delivery.

Building on powerful animation features introduced in Maya 2019, Maya 2020 adds more than 60 new updates animators will notice in their day-to-day work. The release also includes Arnold 6, which can now be used for production rendering on both the CPU and GPU, as well as significant performance enhancements and new simulation features to Bifrost, the visual programming environment in Maya.

Crafty Apes Delivers Incredible Subtle VFX for Hidden Figures  with Help from Autodesk 3ds Max and Maya

Hidden Figures recounts the story of three female African-American mathematicians who played an integral role John Glenns launch into space and return. Captured on 35mm film, the movie is largely live action, but features nuanced CG throughout. Crafty Apes delivered 328 VFX shots for the film, working out of its Atlanta facility, with Founder Chris LeDoux at the helm, Mark LeDoux overseeing local artists and Tim LeDoux guiding the final look out of the studios LA facility. Together, a 20-person team created CG elements reminiscent of 1960s Russian and NASA space programs; period era technology; and capsules, rockets, launch pads and the like, in addition to a host of VFX and environment work for CG shots, from bolts to Earth.

Autodesk Best of the Best Show Reel 2012  Call for Submissions

Autodesk issued a call for submissions for the 2012 Best of the Best Show Reel, which will premiere at NAB on April 16 in Las Vegas, NV. The reel will be showcased in front of thousands of broadcast and film professionals at the Autodesk NAB booth (SL3315) from April 16-19, on AREA, the Autodesk Web site, Autodesk You Tube Channel and at other events throughout the year.

Commercial, broadcast, music video, episodic, short, feature film, digital media, and interactive projects created during 2011 using any of the following Autodesk Digital Entertainment Creation software tools are eligible for submission: Flame Premium, Flame, Smoke, Maya, 3ds Max, Softimage, MotionBuilder and Mudbox.

Autodesk is also seeking high-resolution images for inclusion in its marketing materials leading up to and surrounding NAB.
