Linear Acoustic Demonstrates Updates for MT2000 Portable Multichannel Bitstream Analyzer at BroadcastAsia 2016

Date: 31/05/2016
Linear Acoustic is introducing the latest updates for its MT2000 Multichannel Bitstream Analyzer at BroadcastAsia 2016 (Booths 5C4-01 (GBS Alliance Booth) and the German Pavilion 5C7-06 (with Minnetonka Audio)). Featuring a full suite of test capabilities in a handheld form factor, the MT2000 allows engineers to analyze and troubleshoot digital audio paths quickly and portably. It is ideal for a variety of testing applications including remote production, broadcast, cable, satellite, and home theater. The new software dramatically simplifies use and improves signal display, as well as adding several new features.
"The Linear Acoustic MT2000 Multichannel Bitstream Analyzer is a feature-packed tool for PCM and Dolby encoded audio analysis and generation," says Tim Carroll, Linear Acoustic founder and Telos Alliance CTO. "It is an efficient tool for end-to-end system testing and is ideal as a modern, advanced replacement for the venerable, but long discontinued Dolby DM100."

This portable diagnostic tool identifies input signal type, including sample rate, video format and frame rate, as well as error detection at the bitstream and AES3 layers. It supports two-channel and multichannel PCM, plus Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby E decoding, monitoring, and analysis. The new software update offers a streamlined menu structure, the ability to view 16 channels of audio at once, automatic detection of input signal type, and (optional) SNMP capability. In addition, the MT2000 can also analyze SMPTE 337 formatting, measure Dolby E guard band and line position, and display all the metadata contained in a Dolby encoded bitstream. In support of ATSC A/85 (CALM) and EBU R128 recommendations, it also includes comprehensive ITU-R BS.1770-1/2/3 loudness measurement capabilities with user selectable Dolby Dialog Intelligence.

A bright OLED display provides channel signal levels and loudness, as well as status updates at a glance, while a combination jog wheel and navigation joystick provides complete control. In addition to viewing the characteristics of a signal from the analyzer's display, engineers can utilize the unit's built-in speaker or headphone output to listen to the audio on the spot and verify composition and quality of the metered audio signals.

The MT2000 is able to output test signals in both PCM- and Dolby-coded formats, and can output test signals simultaneously on all outputs, even while receiving and decoding an input signal. When generating two-channel PCM tone signals, it allows independently adjustable frequency and level on each channel. It also offers an extensive set of Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby E test bitstreams, which are stored internally. The unit also allows for the generation of SDI video, measurement of A/V synchronization (lip sync) and audio latency.

Signal I/O includes HD/SD-SDI, AES, MADI and TOSLINK. Additional options include DVB-ASI and HDMI inputs. Power is supplied by an internal NiMH battery or an included external DC power supply. The MT2000 is designed and built in the USA, and is backed with a two-year warranty and the world-class support and expertise of Linear Acoustic.

R3 Estudio Movel in Brazil equips OB van with Calrec Artemis for live music Såo Paulo-based R3 Estudio Movel has chosen a Calrec Artemis Ray audio console for its OB truck, called PowerTruck, focussing on the recording and mixing of audio for live broadcasts as well as music DVDs and streaming outlets.

Isaías Rosa, R3’s recording/mixing engineer and multi-Latin Grammy nominee, says that when assessing the audio console market, “the Artemis met all the requirements of our truck,” highlighting its versatility as a key quality that drew him to the console. “The truck is set up for mixing and recording music. The Artemis Ray has excellent sound quality; we use it in a 72-fader configuration, which is great for live music mixing as we have the faders set up on one layer,” he continued.

R3 Estudio Movel uses two WAVES cards, one Dante card and six MADI cards in the truck. The on-stage setup includes 128 mic pre-amps and two MADI cards. The company creates about 40 music DVDs a year – including one recently for Sony Music’s Brazilian funk artist Nego do Borel - plus its work on live broadcasts and streaming.

“This project is a great example of how the Artemis console can really spread its wings with different types of broadcasts, including live music. It’s a testament to its power, versatility and superior sound quality. We’re delighted that R3 Estudio Movel is reaping the benefits of all that the Artemis has to offer,” commented Mike Reddick, International Sales Manager, Calrec.

Broadcast Solutions to Enter the Market for Used OB Vehicles with a New Service

Antti Laurila, Global Sales Director at Broadcast Solutions, on the move towards used equipment: “Over the years we see a growing need for used production vehicles in many countries. Some of our customers want to upgrade their production fleet and are looking for means to fund the purchase by selling their used OBs. Therefore, it was a logical step to use our know-how and sales network to help them find the right company to sell to.”

Within the new business unit, Broadcast Solutions acts as the agent mediating between the seller and prospective new customers of used OB vehicles. Part of the service is, of course, refurbishments of the used OBs, depending on the overall condition and the needs of the buyer. The company will also use its technical expertise to advise of potential changes that could be possible and technology choices which may provide additional benefits to the new owner. The company also offers an enhanced full support agreement, tailored to protect both equipment and vehicle. With these continuity schemes, buyers can be confident that their new investment will be protected round the clock by engineers they can trust. Identifying necessary technical upgrades for the vehicles to be future-proof investments is a huge benefit for both parties, causing a frictionless sales process and adding more options for the use of certain vehicles.

Broadcast Solutions offers this service worldwide and starts with already four OB trucks in stock, ready for purchase.

Starfish provides compliance recording to The National Library of Sweden Posted: 16/10/2019
Starfish provides compliance recording to The National Library of Sweden

Starfish Technologies, a pioneer in transport stream processing and advertising insertion, has supplied a multi-channel compliance recording system to Kungliga biblioteket, The National Library of Sweden in Stockholm, Sweden, in cooperation with Starfish’s Swedish partner Lanlink Digital Broadcast.

The system utilises Starfish’s ‘Verify’ compliance recording technology which can record multiple channels of live TV broadcast and features a fully managed system with auto failover. Built using generic IT hardware from HP, it includes the Starfish web-based monitoring application to view and manage the operation of the N+N configuration. Input signals are presented as encoded transport streams from both the satellite and terrestrial feeds for each channel automatically switching between the two feeds when detecting a missing input.

Starfish Marketing Director Peter Blatchford said, “We have been building systems in Sweden for many years with companies such as TV4 and Red Bee Media and are delighted to have been chosen to now supply The National Library of Sweden. The Starfish Verify Compliance Recording System is highly configurable and utilises our expertise with transport stream processing and web based system monitoring’.
