Alpha Sound Selects DPA for Famed Cathedral AV Overhaul Posted: 21/04/2021
Alpha Sound Selects DPA for Famed Cathedral AV Overhaul

St. Mary’s Cathedral is one of the most popular and beautiful Catholic churches in the Portland area. It serves as its parish’s diocese, hosting weekly masses, services and sometimes daily visits for a large, devoted congregation. The church needed to ensure its audio-visual equipment could convey its important messages in a smooth, intelligible manner—something that was previously lacking due its domed cathedral and marble walls. When it came time for an AV upgrade, St. Mary’s turned to Alpha Sound, a leading AV installer in the Pacific Northwest. With 40 years’ experience, the Alpha Sound team was ready to tackle the live acoustical issues at the cathedral while also choosing equipment that would not impede the church’s elegant décor. To accomplish this, the installer selected more than 20 mics from DPA Microphones, the largest DPA install to-date in the area.

NEP Hilversum Chooses Custom Consoles Control Desks and MediaWall for New MCR Suite Posted: 23/01/2020
NEP Hilversum Chooses Custom Consoles Control Desks and MediaWall for New MCR Suite

Custom Consoles announces the completion and installation of eight control desks and a large MediaWall monitor display support system for NEP Media Solutions BV. Located in the master control room at the company's studios in Hilversum's Media Park, the desks are configured in front and rear rows for use by up to six and four operators respectively.

"The desks are similar in style and colour scheme to a suite we produced in early 2018 for another NEP television studio facility," says Custom Consoles' Sales Manager Gary Fuller. "The forward desk centres on a dual-operator bridge with a total of eight forward-sloping 4U equipment pods. This is constructed as a rectangular unit with space for two operators. Left and right of the bridge are two units of identical design to the bridge but angled to match the curve of the 13.9 metre wide six-frame MediaWall. The MediaWall itself is one of the largest we have produced to date, each of the six frames accommodating four 55 inch UHD displays to create an 11-wide by two-high screen array with two additional pairs of 32 inch screens."

IBC2019 IP Showcase to Highlight AV-Over-IP and JT-NM TR-1001-1 That Streamlines and Simplifies IP Deployments

The stage is set for the IP Showcase at IBC2019, an education and demonstration pavilion that highlights the benefits of a common set of IP standards and specifications for real-time professional media applications and the growing industry momentum for standards-based IP installations. For its fourth IBC appearance, the IP Showcase will emphasize two new areas: the emergence of open standards for AV-over-IP interoperability and the adoption of the JT-NM TR-1001-1, a set of specifications and guidance designed to make it possible for broadcasters to automate installation and eliminate complexity when deploying IP-based systems.

JT-NM Tech Stack Debuts in Future Zone at IP Showcase
The IP Showcase, now in its third year at the 2019 NAB Show, will feature a new Future Zone demonstration area to highlight the latest advances in the standards-based approach to IP-based operation in broadcast. Following the industry's general acceptance of SMPTE ST 2110 as the transport layer for IP systems, the Joint Task Force on Networked Media (JT-NM) is in the process of defining and releasing the JT-NM Tech Stack, a set of protocols that will make it easier for broadcasters to implement IP-based systems. Those developments will be demonstrated for the first time in the Future Zone.
