To emphasise the flexibility of its asset management, browse and desktop solutions, IPV demonstrated its integration with Harmonics video server and storage solutions at IBC2012 on the Harmonic Inc. booth.
As well as showing the industry-standard IPV SpectreView serving proxies ingested by a Harmonic Spectrum¢ server and transferred to an Omneon® MediaGrid¢ shared storage system, the demonstration showcased smooth desktop editing using IPVs tight integration with Adobe CS6 Premiere Pro.
Harmonic has embraced the IPV solution as a means of delivering seamless production workflows to broadcasters and production centres. As new content is being ingested, the IPV SpectreView software streams frame-accurate proxies over standard IT networks to multiple users anywhere in the production process.
Because of the unique structure of the IPV proxy file, users can start work as soon as the first frames arrive on their desktops within seconds of the start of ingest. Each user has full access to growing files, including the ability to scrub video and audio; fast forward and rewind (up to 64x faster than real time); jump to timecode; and shot change detection and indexing. All of this is with perfect, frame-accurate timecode, allowing tasks including shot selection and editing, asset management, subtitling and automation to be carried out immediately and with full confidence that decisions will be faithfully reflected in the full resolution content.
IPV pioneered the concept of shadow browsing and frame-accurate proxies, and it has continued to innovate to help create modern broadcast workflows, said Simon Eldridge, Director, product management of Harmonic. The Harmonic proxy architecture is innovative, powerful and flexible, and we are proud to have worked with IPV to offer this integrated solution.
The demonstration also showed the power of the IPV live plug-in for the Adobe CS6 Premiere Pro editing application. A lightweight version of Premiere is skinned to appear as part of the newsroom desktop, or a craft editor can access proxy content using the IPV asset management. With either option, editing can start on a growing proxy file and instantly can be conformed for broadcast or online services using the IPV Conform Engine.
Many of our broadcast and production users tell us that allowing multiple users precise access to content as soon as possible is a commercial imperative, said David Cole, CEO of IPV. "Together, Harmonic and IPV are delivering the fast-turnaround productivity boost that broadcasters are looking for."
