Grass Valley Launches GV Fabric to Deliver End-to-End IP Solutions at NAB Show 2019

Published: 08 April 2019

Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, will launch GV Fabric, a high-speed commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) IP switch tuned expressly for open architecture broadcast, media and entertainment environments at the NAB Show 2019 (booth #SL106). GV Fabric is a compact, scalable solution specifically designed to support all broadcast and media applications, including studios, master control rooms, outside broadcasting, venues and more.

Validated for use with Grass Valley IP-enabled solutions – from DirectIP enabled cameras to switchers, conversion and processing devices through to multiviewers – GV Fabric underpins the industry’s most comprehensive suite of open IP applications. Grass Valley now provides customers with a turnkey IP core infrastructure as a single vendor solution that greatly reduces deployment time. The system includes IP switches as well as the required broadcast equipment; control, configuration and monitoring systems, with dedicated IP software tools..

“As customers look to build successful media businesses that can adapt and scale to meet any service model requirement, open-architecture IP is increasingly important. Grass Valley now provides a one-stop-shop for open standards-based IP solutions with assurances for equipment interoperability – whether for SDI to IP migration or a greenfield installation,” said David Lane, vice president of routing at Grass Valley. “GV Fabric gives customers a simpler, faster and more cost-effective way to deploy a complete turnkey IP solution with the flexibility to add third-party systems, if required.

GV Fabric is delivered with all the necessary software pre-installed, including a docker container allowing deployment of future applications that can run independently on top of the operating system. The system provides up to 32x 40/100GbE ports with independent port configuration to support alternative device speeds and channel segmentation.

GV Fabric is available in two versions: a 1U full-rack width 32x QSFP28 port switch and a 1U half-rack width 16x QSFP28 port switch providing the equivalent of up to 2048x2048 HD (256x256 UHD-1) and 1024x1024 HD (128x128 UHD-1) signal switching capacities respectively. All ports are fully independent and auto-sensing supporting Ethernet speeds of 1/10/25/40/50 and 100 GbE. The half-rack version is perfect for fly packs with redundant 2022-7 networks in a single rack unit.
