GRAVITY MEDIA IS READY FOR THE FUTURE OF EDITING

Gravity Media has implemented a major investment programme for its London post-production offering. A significant sum is being spent on kit upgrades and a long-term extension to the lease of its popular serviced facility in the heart of London’s Soho, which will benefit its core client base – producers of high-quality drama and features.

The emergence of the pandemic and subsequent lock-downs resulted in a significant increase in demand forremote editing. In response, Gravity Media’s expert team of in-house engineers mobilised quickly to design, develop and deploy efficient and secure workflows to support this.As the post-Covid era approaches, Gravity Media is now ready for the future of editing and a noticeable shift towards a hybrid working model.

At the heart of it is Gravity House, the 50-suite facility based on Frith Street which was set up by Gravity Media in 2017 to provide cutting rooms to producers of premium episodic and feature-length content for major studios, streaming giants and broadcasters. With media housed securely on Avid Nexis shared storage on site, editors can work from their preferred location using Avid Media Composer and HP hardware while still being able to utilise the benefits of the purpose-built infrastructure and 24/7 technical support available at Gravity House. Leo stream handles traffic from multiple cloud-based services, including Teradici, HPZCentral, Amulet Hotkey and Windows Remote to provide a secure gateway and simple interface.Team viewings can be carried out safely in person at GravityHouse, or remotely using Apple TV.

Key investment in new technology includes Amulet HotkeyDXZ4 Quad Zero Clients, DXH4 Quad Host Cards for PC and DXT-H4 Host Units for Mac, as well as powerful HPZCentral4R 1U workstations and Sienna NDI streaming solutions.

“The positive reaction from our customers to the flexibility offered by remote working with us during the pandemic will see this trend develop into amore established hybrid model as restrictions ease,” said Meryl McLaren, Director Media Services & Facilities at Gravity Media EMEA.“ It’s great to have the option to work from anywhere, but there are real creative advantages to be had when bringing people together again under one roof. The technology and infrastructure investments we’re making will further support this hybrid model and enable us to continue its long-term development.”

With a large inventory of the latest professional tools available, Gravity Media has the ability deliver and install hardware packages for remote working including standalone offline edits, grades and dubs, as well as laptops running AdobeCreative Cloud to any location.
