European broadcasters select Sony to futureproof their wireless operations

Broadcasters across Europe are investing in Sony’s latest 4K professional camcorder, the PXW-Z280, in a move to create wireless workflows and future-proof their operations. Shortly after shipping commenced, Scottish public service broadcaster STV, Croatian Radio television (HRT) and Bosnian-Herzegovinian Radio Television (BHRT) have all invested in the versatile handheld camcorder, boasting the world’s first 4K 3-CMOS 1/2\" sensor.

Created with the needs of modern broadcasters in mind, the PXW-Z280 was launched at NAB this year and has since raised the performance standard of what content professionals can expect from a state-of-the-art camcorder. Its 4K 3CMOS 1/2-type sensor and secure wireless Electric News Gathering (ENG) workflow have helped established it as a versatile handheld shooting solution, capable of producing content with exceptional image quality, and delivering it wirelessly directly to newsrooms across the world. Its enhanced network features, deep depth of field and a high sensitivity of F12 (59.94p) have made it ideal to meet the demands of today’s broadcast operations.
"The future of broadcasting is wireless and we at Sony aim to offer innovative solutions that support broadcasters on their journey to this wireless future,\" said James Leach, European Product Marketing Manager, Sony Professional Solutions Europe. "The PXW-Z280 is no different and the incredible positive response we have received from several rental companies, private owners and broadcasters across Europe, including STV, HRT and BHRT, shows that our solutions clearly cater to market demand. With the PXW-Z280 we are helping broadcasters reach more audiences, more quickly."
STV, Scotland’s largest digital media brand – having previously used Sony’s PMW-200 and PMW-X200 – recently invested in x37 units of Sony’s PXW-Z280, which are being introduced to support newsgathering workflows across its five sites. The camcorder’s wireless capabilities will enable STV’s team of skilled multi-media journalists (MMJs)to capture news as it happens and wirelessly send content back to STV’s newsrooms to be broadcast or shared online to reach its audiences. To meet STV’s requirements, Sony worked closely with CVP, which supported various testing stages to enable the broadcaster’s news and digital investment project to be implemented.
Croatian Radio television (HRT), a Croatian public broadcasting company operating several radio and television channels, has chosen the PXW-Z280 specifically to produce content for its news and magazine programmes. The camcorder is just the latest addition to a number of Sony solutions, including the HDC-2400 system cameras and XVS switcher series, already in use by the broadcaster.
Additionally, Bosnian-Herzegovinian Radio Television (BHRT), an umbrella broadcasting organisation and the only member of the European Broadcasting Union from Bosnia and Herzegovina, has also invested in the Sony’s PXW-Z280 camcorder.
