Super Star Power Productions Relies on Qube Cinema Server and IMB for Its New 4K DI Suite

Qube Cinema has installed its XP-I server and Xi 4K integrated media block (IMB) in Super Star Power Productions' new 4K DI suite in Los Angeles. The combination postproduction facility and theater offers a seamless 4K pipeline from review of uncompressed 4K image files taken directly from 4K cameras, through color grading at 4K, to the Qube XP-I server and Xi IMB and projected via Barco's new DP4K-P postproduction projector. Hollywood producers and directors of feature films will now be able to review 4K images, color grade at 4K in real time and generate 4K DCPs for final QC, all from a single 4K projector in a home-like setting.

Qube Cinema Enables Historic Screening of Digitally Restored Oklahoma

Qube Cinema participated in a landmark screening of the restored and digitally mastered Oklahoma! at the TCM Classic Film Festival on April 10 at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Attendees, including Oklahoma! lead Shirley Jones, were treated to a 4K high frame rate (HFR) premiere of the classic musical projected onto the large screen by a 4K projector containing the Qube 4K Xi integrated media block (IMB) and relying on a high bitrate DCP streamed by the Qube XP-I server. This historic screening of the 1955 Todd-AO classic is the first time a high bitrate and HFR DCP has been created and exhibited as part of the restoration of a feature film classic.

Qube Cinema has released QubeCast, a new multicast server providing efficient digital cinema package (DCP) distribution over satellite and broadband networks. QubeCast is designed primarily for wide distribution of films to theaters, including exhibitors in remote locations or without reliable high-speed data connections. QubeCast relies on the innovative Qualcomm(r) RaptorQ(tm) Forward Error Correction (FEC) technology from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, to rapidly distribute films via satellite, even when there is no return data channel. The technology gives cinema networks an efficient and reliable alternative for DCP distribution and status monitoring.

Qube Cinema has sold its digital cinema servers and DCP mastering software to Cinecolor postproduction facilities in five Latin American countries. Each of the Cinecolor post houses - in Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Mexico and Columbia - now has a Qube XP-D server in its screening room for QC of its DCPs. Cinecolor Argentina and Columbia also use QubeMaster Pro for mastering DCPs. The DCP mastering and QC equipment enable Cinecolor to meet the growing demand for digital cinema postproduction services in Latin America.

Qube Cinema partnered with Moving Image Technologies (MiT) to provide multiscreen projection of synchronized digital cinema content in Hall H at Comic-Con International in San Diego recently. Visitors to this marquee event saw digital presentations on four screens, simultaneously projected from five synchronized DLP projectors, all powered by the Qube XP-I server and Xi Integrated Media Blocks (IMBs). Organizers of large events now have a way of synchronizing multiple DCI compliant Series 2 projectors, while maintaining the stringent DCI security requirements that content owners demand.
