Dalet Opens New Roles in the Americas to Support Growing Enterprise Business

Dalet, a leading provider of solutions and services for broadcasters and content professionals, today announced the appointment of James Ohana to a newly created Director, Program Management position on the Dalet Professional Services, Americas team. In the new role, Ohana will oversee Dalet’s large-scale, multi-site, multi-year project portfolio. In addition to the newly created position, Dalet has expanded the Americas Professional Services team with the addition of Jamie Day to Program Manager. Day’s main focus will be on the quality of Dalet project execution.

Dalet Director, Program Management – James OhanaA business-savvy IT professional with over 20 years of experience in enterprise solution delivery, project methodology and change management, James possesses a deep understanding of emerging technologies and the challenges the broadcast and media industry faces. Filling a new role within the Americas Professional Services team, James is responsible for managing the delivery of Dalet’s growing portfolio of large-scale, multi-site, multi-year implementations. “Larger project engagements require a different level of delivery management,” states Julien Decaix, general manager, Dalet USA. “James understands both the business and technology needs of our enterprise clients. This well-rounded perspective combined with his vast experience gives him the ability to guide as well as challenge the project’s internal and external stakeholders to deliver the best value for the end users and the organization.” Decaix concludes, “James offers the leadership and the skill required to successfully steer the complex operational and business transformations Dalet customers undertake.”As Director of Program Management, James oversees every aspect of large-scale media enterprise roll-outs in North America, from finalizing architecture design to change management, coaching and upgrades. James elaborates on the impact of the new position, “With a 360-degree knowledge of project deliverables and goals, I can better orchestrate the many moving parts, providing the sound, bi-directional guidance needed to keep these large-scale, multi-site, multi-year projects on the trajectory. This ensures Dalet hits the mark successfully internally and most importantly the customers achieve their goals as planned.”
James began his career in the media and entertainment space as a project manager for Dalet. Prior to rejoining the company, James held the position of principal solutions consultant on the Digital Media Solutions team at Oracle. In this role, James was responsible for designing and selling Content Storage Management systems (on-premises and in the cloud) as well as supporting the partner ecosystem. James also worked for Avid, designing and delivering digital media solutions to broadcasters and industry content providers. In both positions, James managed projects and development teams in the United States and Europe. Prior to joining Avid, James worked for IBM Global Business Services as a project manager and consultant in the media and entertainment practice, where he was responsible for providing strategic and technical consulting to media companies.
James is a Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) and holds a Master’s degree in Management Information Systems (MIS) from the University of Paris Dauphine and a Bachelor’s degree in Management and Economics from the University of Paris Sorbonne.
Dalet Program Manager, Professional Services – Jamie DayStepping into the Program Manager position for Dalet Professional Services, North America, Jamie focuses on maximizing the quality of project execution and project delivery, improving the consistency of Dalet deployment and security policy processes. “Forward-thinking delivery processes are key to creating sustainable operations for our customers and ultimately transforming their business,” states Decaix, “More than just managing the pragmatic details of Dalet customer deployments, Jamie improves our processes to better serve the needs of our customers today, leveraging the agility of the Dalet platform potential to ensure that they are set up to maximize the technology and business opportunities of tomorrow.”
Prior to Dalet, Jamie worked as a program manager for Google on the Corporate Engineering team. At Google, Jamie managed high-visibility, complex projects from design through the deployment of integrated and interactive audio-visual technology. She led design and build efforts for Google Fiber Customer Experience in Austin, TX for live concerts and events such as SXSW. She also designed US Office and Datacenter Google Video Conference (GVC) Programs and delivered special AV systems, such as mission control rooms, teaching kitchens and other specialty AV in the US, Toronto, Zurich and Sydney. She was appointed to Datacenter Design committee to establish global standards for acoustics and Audio Visual related construction.
Jamie graduated from Barnard College, Columbia University and has a Master’s degree in Information Systems from Pace University, Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems.

Nevion Virtuoso used in worlds first large scale application of TICO video compression

Nevion, award-winning provider of virtualized media production solutions, has revealed that its flagship software-defined media node Virtuoso was used in the world’s first large-scale application of TICO video compression during the China Media Group’s (CMG) live coverage of the recent celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

Nevion Virtuoso’s TICO media function enables encoding and decoding of UHD/4K video for transport over 10GE/IP or 3G-SDI links, with a visually lossless 4:1 compression ratio and a latency of a few milliseconds. For this event, more than 120 Nevion Virtuosos were used for the live 4K broadcast to billions of viewers via CMG’s China Central Television’s (CCTV) television station and website, as well as 70 4K movie theaters.

The system utilises Starfish’s ‘Verify’ compliance recording technology which can record multiple channels of live TV broadcast and features a fully managed system with auto failover. Built using generic IT hardware from HP, it includes the Starfish web-based monitoring application to view and manage the operation of the N+N configuration. Input signals are presented as encoded transport streams from both the satellite and terrestrial feeds for each channel automatically switching between the two feeds when detecting a missing input.

Launched throughout the lower 48 United States in spring 2019, Orby TV offers a high-quality and affordable prepaid, pay-as-you-go satellite pay TV service directly to consumers at a low cost with no contract and no Internet service required.
 
Globecast is handling Orby TV’s full broadcast operations on a 24/7 basis at its Globecast Media Center in Culver City, CA. Using its extensive fiber and satellite network, Globecast is managing for Orby TV channel aggregation, providing Orby TV’s co-location services, handling technical operations and the uplinking of the channels to the high-powered Ku-band capacity on Eutelsat’s EUTELSAT 117 West A satellite at 117° West.
 
This deal with Globecast allows Orby TV to benefit from advanced DTH delivery services, along with the satellite space segment and disaster recovery services from a geographically diverse third-party uplink site. This collaboration provides a complete and fully integrated satellite transmission infrastructure, giving Orby TV a fully managed and resilient transmission solution.

Shanxi Television in China purchases second Calrec Brio console for its new studio
China-based Shanxi Television has chosen a Calrec Brio36 audio console for its news programming and multi-purpose talk shows. The Brio is installed in a new studio, which was initially used for covering the China National Youth Games, held this August, with more than 10 hours of live broadcasting produced in the studio each day. This is the broadcaster’s second Brio installation with the first installed a year ago.
 
Mr. Wu Jie, Supervisor of the technical department of Shanxi Television, commented, “We have been very happy with our first Brio, which has proved to be intuitive to use, with great sound quality and stability. The last point is very important. The intuitive I/O connections and simple-to-use software and surface helped us save a lot of time during installation in this new studio and with the training, too.”
 
Shanxi Television is a network in the Taiyuan and Shanxi province that broadcasts in Jin Chinese. For the China National Youth Games, they received signals from multiple venues and the hosts and guests adding commentary and comment in the studio.
 
Mr. Wu Jie explains that they set up the new studio in 10 days, with five days of training, with the Brio’s clear design making it easy for operators to master quickly. Also, functions like swapping a fader on an individual strip, ALT-input, auto mixing and the fact that labelling channel strips is easy are also highlighted, along with the support Calrec partner RAC Pro provided throughout the process.
 
Later this year, Shanxi Television will be working with 4K content and they anticipate that the Brio’s 5.1 capabilities and expandability will make the use of 4K go smoothly.
