ChyronHego Expands Sales Presence in Americas With Four Key Appointments
Signaling solid and continued growth in its Americas broadcast division, ChyronHego today announced the appointment of Gregoire Rouyer as regional sales manager of major accounts, Holly Myers as director of government accounts, and Mark Friedman as global creative services manager. In addition, ChyronHego has promoted Jason Toliopoulos to strategic account executive.
"We're pleased to welcome these high-caliber sales and creative professionals to our Americas broadcast team. All four bring stellar expertise, relationships, and experience built through many years of working with high-profile broadcasters and broadcasting technology companies," said Marco Lopez, CEO of ChyronHego. "As momentum continues to build throughout the Americas for our world-class graphics solutions, we're confident that this team will help us cement our leadership in the region."
Jason Toliopoulos is transitioning into a new role as strategic account executive after serving over four years as ChyronHego's manager of creative services. In his new position, he will be managing some of ChyronHego's largest strategic accounts in the U.S and Canada. In addition, Toliopoulos will manage both direct and channel sales in Canada. Toliopoulos is an 18-year veteran in the broadcast industry, having worked as a creative director for Canada's largest broadcasters — including CBC, CTV, and TVA. Toliopoulos also holds a bachelor's degree with honors from Ryerson University, where he taught design and special effects prior to joining ChyronHego.
As regional sales manager, major accounts based in Los Angeles, Gregoire Rouyer will oversee key broadcast accounts and drive company growth by identifying new market opportunities and potential clients. He joins ChyronHego from Dalet Digital Media Systems, where he had served since 2010 in a range of engineering, project management, and sales management roles. Most recently at Dalet, he was a sales account manager based in Los Angeles. Royer holds degrees in information, energy, and systems engineering from École Supérieure d'Électricité in Paris, and he is an MBA candidate at the UCLA Anderson School of Management in Los Angeles.
Based in Washington, D.C., Holly Myers will leverage his strong relationships with Department of Defense (DOD) and civilian federal agency decision-makers and contractors to build ChyronHego's presence in the government sector. Myers served at Sony for 16 years as account manager, federal sales, where he managed multimillion-dollar technology upgrades with agencies such as the DOD, the White House, Voice of America, the Department of Health and Human Services/National Institutes of Health, and the Department of Homeland Security. Just prior to joining ChyronHego, he was regional account manager, federal sales, for Strategic Communications. He holds a bachelor's degree in marketing from James Madison University.
As global creative services manager, Mark Friedman will work with broadcast customers around the world to engage with audiences that use ChyronHego's award-winning graphics-rendering technologies. Prior to joining ChyronHego, he served 10 years with NBC Sports Washington, most recently as director of creative services and advanced technologies. He joined NBC Sports Washington as creative producer in 2009 and also served as its manager of technical innovation. Before that, Friedman was executive producer at 3plus2 Creative for eight years, where he specialized in in-venue graphics solutions for stadium and arena scoreboards. QComm Demystifies $150 million LPTV Repack Question Posted: 21/02/2020
QComm Demystifies $150 million LPTV Repack Question

QCommunications is a leading engineering, project management and installation vendor specializing in The Spectrum Act (REPACK project). According to Tony zumMallen, QComm President, data analytics support a higher allocation than expected.

“As of February 17, 2020, ~95% or $142M could be attributed to 825 Eligible and Non-Determined stations,” expained zumMallen. “If the trend holds this would be a much higher than expected allocation and a sigh of relief for hundreds of LPTV and translator licencees.”

“So many LPTV broadcasters are inexperienced in the complexity of the application procedure required to determine their eligibility for reimbursement,” zumMallen continued. “At QComm, we not only assist with the entire REPACK process – from needs assessment to transmitter installation to coverage verification - we help broadcasters navigate the paper path and meet all the requirements for reimbursement. We’ve already helped process many millions of dollars and 95% of our LPTV clients have been deemed eligible. And one of the best parts is that our REPACK services are covered for reimbursement, so there is little risk to the broadcaster!”

The Spectrum Act, or REPACK as it is more familiarly known, was designed to re-align the use of broadcast airwaves to suit rapidly evolving consumer demands due to the emergence of divergent entertainment and communications platforms, such as mobile data and the Internet. The shift to new territory allocations and channel assignments has resulted in the need for stations to upgrade, change or redistribute transmission equipment causing significant expenditures that the FCC is relieving with the appropriation of reimbursement funds available to broadcasters that comply with the FCC’s requirements. As part of its service offerings, QComm will assist the customer through the entire process, ensuring they meet eligibility guidelines to receive reimbursements, which could be 100%.

Cobalt Iron Inc., today announced the extension for its Compass™ enterprise SaaS backup platform that offers advanced protection for network-attached storage (NAS) data. Compass delivers the industry's most efficient and comprehensive approach to NAS backup and recovery via a powerful proxy capability called the Compass NAS Agent.

With New FOR-A HVS-2000 Switcher and ClassXGraphics, WLVT-TV Improves Production Workflows and On-Air Look Posted: 19/02/2020
With New FOR-A HVS-2000 Switcher and ClassXGraphics, and nbsp;WLVT-TV Improves Production Workflows and On-Air Look

FOR-A Corporation of America today announced PBS39/WLVTTV, part of Lehigh Valley Public Media based in Bethlehem, Penn., upgraded its control room last August with a FOR-A HVS-2000 HANABI video production switcher and ClassX broadcast graphics system. The new equipment has improved the on-air look of the station’s original programming as well as its live production workflows.

For example, the HVS-2000 can load and playback graphics from the ClassX, so the TD can access them during live productions. As a result, PBS39’s graphics designer does not have to be in the control room for “routine” productions. “When I saw how well the two integrated together, plus the price, it seemed like an obvious choice,” said Andrea Cummis, chief technology officer.

The ClassX also supports the use of RSS feeds for updating election results and other data in graphics, a feature that was not supported by the station’s older graphics system. Cummis said the system “worked great” for local primary election coverage last year, but she is looking forward to using the system to its full potential for Election Night in November.

GB Labs to feature Mosaic and CORE.4 Lite at CABSAT 2020 Posted: 19/02/2020
GB Labs to feature Mosaic and CORE.4 Lite at CABSAT 2020

CABSAT 2020, Dubai, 31 March - 2 April 2020, Stand G3-24: Leaders in intelligent storage solutions, GB Labs, will showcase its award-winning Mosaic automatic asset organiser and the new CORE.4 Lite operating system during CABSAT 2020 at the Dubai World Trade Centre from 31 March – 2 April.

The Mosaic asset organiser makes it far easier to quickly search for, retrieve, and view video assets. Mosaic automatically scans all inbuilt metadata and integrates it with AI tagging enabling the ability to store, catalogue and access assets with no need for manual intervention, making it a substantial time and money saver.

GB Labs new CORE.4 Lite operating system is a custom OS specifically designed to serve media files. Its high degree of speciality guarantees stable performance for every user, whether as workgroups or individuals, while maximising the efficiency of every disk.

A powerful new feature included with CORE.4 Lite is Analytics Centre, a dashboard that runs in the background of GB Labs intelligent storage devices and continuously analyses the network, providing complete visibility of exactly how, and by whom, data is being used.

GB Labs CEO-CTO Dominic Harland said, “Read/write speeds are usually compromised by a misconfigured network, which wastes resources. But configuration issues can be difficult to locate and resolve manually. Analytics Centre automatically analyses the read/write process through the network with specially designed algorithms that identifies, locates, and suggests how to resolve any issues, often before they occur, thereby eliminating the need for painstaking manual intervention.”

GB Labs will also demonstrate how its proprietary Dynamic Bandwidth Control identifies and selects high, medium, and low priority users to guarantee that the storage system automatically adjusts to operate at peak performance for all.

According to Harland, “Dynamic Bandwidth Control makes storage malleable to ensure it can flexibly respond to changes in usage priorities without breaking. This is unique to GB Labs and can be implemented whether storage is in use by one user or an entire workgroup.”

For backup and archiving, the exhibition stand workspaces will be coupled with GB Labs EasyLTO, an easy-to-use, cost-effective, all-in-one, high-speed solution.

Finally, the company will also discuss the success of recent GB Labs deployments to new customers including M for Media; Qatl Al Youm TV; Polimer TV; Craft; Kalvi TV; and Madha TV.
