Astora entering the market of LED lights with a complete solution providing bright, high quality LED lights for creative minds

Astora today unveils its new line of LED lighting solutions. Available in three different models, all lights are designed to meet the needs of photographers and filmmakers. Features include the highest brightness in its class and built-in wireless control and removable barn doors. With an almost perfect color reproduction and silent fan-less operation Astora wants to provide creative image makers with the tools to expand their vision.

Each of the three models has its own specific characteristics but all Astora lights are very bright and come with a wide range of built-in features. With up to 16629 lux@1m and flicker free performance they deliver consistent lighting for any situation, including high frame rates and high shutter speeds. With its integrated wireless control and included remote, settings can easily be adjusted from anywhere, at any time. All lights come in a rock-solid but lightweight metal housing and contain removable barn doors, making these lights a complete solution for any filmmaker or photographer.

All Astora products will be available from April 2018 at authorized Astora dealers. For more information please visit www.astoralight.com

The ASTORA WS (Widescreen) is the most portable light from Astora and a perfect travel companion, built tough to go wherever adventure takes you.

Like all Astora lights it is one of the brightest lights in its size-class, combining a compact shape and a 50° beam angle with a tremendous output of up to 7381 lux@1m.

Available as pure Daylight (WS 840D) and Bi-color (WS 840B) models, you can choose between maximum brightness at pure Daylight or ultimate flexibility to match ambient color temperatures quickly and accurately with the Bi-color model.

With its built-in NP-F battery plate the Astora WS can easily be powered by affordable NP-F type batteries.

The ASTORA PS (Power Spot) with its 30° beam angle offers even more brightness than the WS, up to a staggering 16629 lux@1m, so that you’ll have enough power to bounce or diffuse the light, light at a distance or in bright sunlight.

With a power consumption below 86,4W, the Astora Power-Spot can be powered with any normal V-Mount battery and is not restricted to expensive high-current V-Mount batteries.

The wide 120° beam angle and the fixed diffusor of the Astora SF (Super Flood) series create a soft scattered light that wraps nicely around its subject.

Available in three sizes you can choose from maximum portability to largest aperture.

Providing up to 13000 lumens, the Astora SF Soft series is a soft yet bright light source that mimics the effect of a soft box keeping a compact and thin form factor.

In addition to wireless control the ASTORA SF series also has DMX 512 built-in, so that it can be integrated into any existing environment easily via industry standard XLR connectors.

Broadcast Solutions to Enter the Market for Used OB Vehicles with a New Service

Antti Laurila, Global Sales Director at Broadcast Solutions, on the move towards used equipment: “Over the years we see a growing need for used production vehicles in many countries. Some of our customers want to upgrade their production fleet and are looking for means to fund the purchase by selling their used OBs. Therefore, it was a logical step to use our know-how and sales network to help them find the right company to sell to.”

Within the new business unit, Broadcast Solutions acts as the agent mediating between the seller and prospective new customers of used OB vehicles. Part of the service is, of course, refurbishments of the used OBs, depending on the overall condition and the needs of the buyer. The company will also use its technical expertise to advise of potential changes that could be possible and technology choices which may provide additional benefits to the new owner. The company also offers an enhanced full support agreement, tailored to protect both equipment and vehicle. With these continuity schemes, buyers can be confident that their new investment will be protected round the clock by engineers they can trust. Identifying necessary technical upgrades for the vehicles to be future-proof investments is a huge benefit for both parties, causing a frictionless sales process and adding more options for the use of certain vehicles.

Broadcast Solutions offers this service worldwide and starts with already four OB trucks in stock, ready for purchase.

VuWall Increases Control Room Productivity With New VuWall2 Features

VuWall, a leader in video wall control and AV network management, today announced an update to its flagship video wall control and collaboration platform, VuWall2. New enhancements to the powerful software solution include colored borders and color detection, support for the Milestone XProtect unified security platform, further integration with the IHSE Draco tera matrix, and extended KVM support of IP sources.

"A control room must be a highly flexible environment where end users can monitor multiple streams of information efficiently and effectively in order to make critical decisions quickly and accurately," said Paul Vander Plaetse, CEO. "This update to VuWall2 is part of our commitment to ensure our customers work as optimally as possible. Each of these enhancements serves to make the integration and operation process seamless, which is key when there's an ever-increasing number of equipment, data streams, and sources needed to support real-time decision-making."

Colored Borders and Color Detection
VuWall2 boosts operational awareness and productivity with new colored borders around windows that are automatically triggered by events such as intrusion detection or fire alarms. The borders' width and colors are configurable and can even be enhanced with a flashing effect, increasing operator responsiveness. Furthering the platform's automation and awareness capabilities, the software also includes a color-detection feature that triggers a new layout on the video wall after a color change has occurred in a specific pixel location on a source computer running process-control applications. This enables unattended operator stations to remain under 24/7 surveillance.

Starfish provides compliance recording to The National Library of Sweden Posted: 16/10/2019
Starfish provides compliance recording to The National Library of Sweden

Starfish Technologies, a pioneer in transport stream processing and advertising insertion, has supplied a multi-channel compliance recording system to Kungliga biblioteket, The National Library of Sweden in Stockholm, Sweden, in cooperation with Starfish’s Swedish partner Lanlink Digital Broadcast.

The system utilises Starfish’s ‘Verify’ compliance recording technology which can record multiple channels of live TV broadcast and features a fully managed system with auto failover. Built using generic IT hardware from HP, it includes the Starfish web-based monitoring application to view and manage the operation of the N+N configuration. Input signals are presented as encoded transport streams from both the satellite and terrestrial feeds for each channel automatically switching between the two feeds when detecting a missing input.

Starfish Marketing Director Peter Blatchford said, “We have been building systems in Sweden for many years with companies such as TV4 and Red Bee Media and are delighted to have been chosen to now supply The National Library of Sweden. The Starfish Verify Compliance Recording System is highly configurable and utilises our expertise with transport stream processing and web based system monitoring’.

Shanxi Television in China purchases second Calrec Brio console for its new studio
China-based Shanxi Television has chosen a Calrec Brio36 audio console for its news programming and multi-purpose talk shows. The Brio is installed in a new studio, which was initially used for covering the China National Youth Games, held this August, with more than 10 hours of live broadcasting produced in the studio each day. This is the broadcaster’s second Brio installation with the first installed a year ago.

Mr. Wu Jie, Supervisor of the technical department of Shanxi Television, commented, “We have been very happy with our first Brio, which has proved to be intuitive to use, with great sound quality and stability. The last point is very important. The intuitive I/O connections and simple-to-use software and surface helped us save a lot of time during installation in this new studio and with the training, too.”

Shanxi Television is a network in the Taiyuan and Shanxi province that broadcasts in Jin Chinese. For the China National Youth Games, they received signals from multiple venues and the hosts and guests adding commentary and comment in the studio.

Mr. Wu Jie explains that they set up the new studio in 10 days, with five days of training, with the Brio’s clear design making it easy for operators to master quickly. Also, functions like swapping a fader on an individual strip, ALT-input, auto mixing and the fact that labelling channel strips is easy are also highlighted, along with the support Calrec partner RAC Pro provided throughout the process.

Later this year, Shanxi Television will be working with 4K content and they anticipate that the Brio’s 5.1 capabilities and expandability will make the use of 4K go smoothly.
