Argosy Strengthens Commitment to Middle East Market with Opening of New Stock Facility

Argosy, a leading international supplier of broadcast cables and infrastructure products, has announced that it has relocated its Dubai office to the city’s Oudmetha area in order to hold more stock and deliver faster and more efficient services to its Middle East customers. The larger facility enables Argosy to locally stock higher volumes of its expanding product portfolio, such as racking and mains distribution units, video audio and data cabling, connectors and patching, SMPTE and fibre assembly equipment, along with KVM and network switches.

"We’re very positive about the growth potential of the Middle East market," said Chris Smeeton, director at Argosy. "Countries like Oman, Bahrain and Lebanon have seen a recent growth in the sports sector meaning more stadia and arenas have been built for boxing, football and tennis tournaments. This in turn has increased the need to produce local content so we are positioning ourselves to be able to deliver orders quickly and provide immediate assistance for such projects through our new regional office in Dubai."
Headed by regional sales manager Raziullah Baig and supported by Argosy's sales, technical and logistics teams back at its UK-based HQ, the new Dubai office brings relevant and critical stock back into the region, offering Argosy clients reduced lead times and a facility to supply to ongoing projects where specific products may be urgently required.
"The beauty of holding more stock in the region is that our clients can begin their projects earlier, starting with the readily-available products we stock in Dubai whilst the rest of their order ships from the UK," explained Baig.
As the Middle East moves towards 4K, Argosy's new partnerships with Mellanox Technologies, Canare, Allied Telesis, BarnFind, kvm-tec and other world class suppliers, will prove indispensable to the region’s content producers and broadcasters as they implement their 4K technology upgrades.
On top of its cable and infrastructure lines, Argosy also offers a range of active hardware, from intelligent power supplies to managed switches for high-capacity IP or 12G SDI.
The Canare range of 4K Ultra HD SDI cables, connectors and patch panels were shown for the first time at IBC2019, as were the Allied Telesis range of expandable, stackable, automated ethernet switches that provide the deterministic control media installations require.
Another newcomer to the Argosy catalogue is Mellanox Technologies. Its SN2010 switch, for example, is an ideal top of rack (ToR) solution for hyperconverged and storage deployments. Packed with 18 ports of 10/25GbE and 4 splittable ports of 40/100GbE, the SN2010 can deliver up to 1.7Tb/s aggregate throughput. Mellanox’s leading IP-based technologies enrich the video experience and bring the audience and content closer together.
For versatile fibre transport, Argosy supplies Barnfind’s range of fibre adaptors which allow designers to quickly create complex infrastructures – enabling data streams such as lighting control to be routed alongside audio and video.
To declutter control desks and make post houses more productive, the low-latency, 4K-ready keyboard/video/mouse technology from kvm-tec delivers high availability convenience.
"Our clients appreciate our ambition to react quickly to local market demand, provide the highest quality of products and offer a first-class service. We give them access to a huge range of reliable solutions to help minimize their procurement and logistics operations and save them a lot stress when it comes to delivering time sensitive projects. The new office makes this even more efficient," concluded Baig.

Intinor to Demonstrate How to Do Remote Production in Live Webinars With Skaarhoj Posted: 21/05/2020
Intinor to Demonstrate How to Do Remote Production in Live Webinars With Skaarhoj

Intinor Technology, Sweden’s leading developer of products and solutions for high quality video over the internet, will be demonstrating how to do remote production in a series of live webinars with Danish company Skaarhoj, manufacturers of universal broadcast control panels. The aim is to showcase how the remote production tools from both Intinor and Skaarhoj complement each other to give a flexible, secure workflow for live production using a variety of different content sources and locations.

Interest in remote production workflows (or REMI) has been on the increase for some time now already. Even before the current global social distancing requirements created an added incentive for broadcasting companies to seek an alternative to the traditional travel-dependent methods of production, the economic and productivity benefits that REMI offers enables companies to more easily meet the rising demand for live content.

IHSE, the leading manufacturer of high-end KVM (keyboard-video-mouse) solutions for extension and switching of computer signals, today announced that Al-Mamlaka TV, Jordan's first state-funded public service news broadcaster, has adopted IHSE KVM solutions for its all-new, state-of-the-art broadcast facility in the capital city of Amman.

Launched in 2018, Al-Mamlaka TV operates from a greenfield, futuristic new broadcasting center in Amman, with a 24/7 lineup of HD news and public affairs shows airing on both linear and OTT platforms. Al-Mamlaka TV worked with an IHSE systems integrator to design the landmark broadcast center, which boasts several firsts in the region: one of the first facilities to embrace virtualization, one of the first to feature a motorized video wall, and the first to make extensive use of augmented reality (AR). The centerpiece of the Al-Mamlaka TV facility is a 400-square-meter, seven-camera studio with five sets and an open design connecting it to the newsroom one floor below. A second, four-camera studio features three predesigned sets, and a third smaller studio looks out on an impressive view of the Amman skyline.

Anevia Adds Multi-tiered Storage to its Cloud DVR Storage Offering Posted: 20/05/2020
Anevia Adds Multi-tiered Storage to its Cloud DVR Storage Offering

Anevia announces the addition of multi-tiered storage to its Cloud DVR storage offering, Embedded Distributed Storage (EDS). This new feature makes EDS even more cost-efficient and scalable while also enabling storage in the cloud – meaning the solution becomes both flexible and elastic.

TV service providers are increasingly enriching their VOD content and need to expand their storage capacity without a commensurate increase in the number of users. The original hyper-convergent design of the scalable, high-performance EDS calls for more servers to be added to increase streaming and storage capacity in parallel. Multi-tiered storage means it is now possible to also increase storage capacity independently of streaming capacity.

With only a small fraction of the VOD catalogue being consumed regularly, long-tail content can be stored more efficiently and cost-effectively on general-purpose ‘cold storage’ support used by the IT departments. This eliminates the need to buy new servers and the related software licences, cutting both the complexity and the cost of scaling for a given number of users.

The newly introduced feature also enables object storage, which opens up the possibility of storing in the public or private cloud. This brings the advantages of scalability, flexibility and elasticity.
