Making Space For A Neve 8424 Console in The Belly of the Beast Posted: 30/11/2020
Making Space For A Neve 8424 Console in The Belly of the Beast

South London studio Belly of the Beast has become the first facility in the UK to install a Neve® 8424 console.

The studio pre-ordered the desk prior to its release in June, following an in-depth demo that highlighted its full range of features. Designed to offer a centralised platform with unparalleled connectivity between the worlds of analogue and digital, this small format console delivers the large format sound of the iconic Neve 80-series console range and is well suited to studios like Belly of the Beast where esoteric and vintage outboard equipment play a significant role in the facility’s workflow.

Rascular Expands its Tools for NDI with RouteMaster Lite Virtual NDI Routing Applications Suite Posted: 02/04/2020
Rascular Expands its Tools for NDI and reg; with RouteMaster Lite Virtual NDI Routing Applications Suite

Rascular, designers of software-based powerful, customisable control and monitoring applications for third-party, professional video technologies, has today announced the launch of three new versions of its RouteMaster Lite virtual routing for Newtek NDI® application: RouteMaster Lite Solo; RouteMaster Lite One; and RouteMaster Lite Four.

RouteMaster Lite - a Windows PC application - brings familiar video routing capabilities to Newtek’s NDI video. Based on Rascular’s proven RouteMaster system, it gives operators a range of familiar control interfaces for controlling video switching. With typical switching times of just one or two frames, RouteMaster Lite is perfect for live and on-air use. This ultra-fast switching makes it suitable for manual intervention and other applications where quick response is essential.

Roddy Pratt, Technical Director with Rascular, says, “Because of our strong commercial relationship with NewTek, we are very pleased to be able to provide ultra-fast switching, a uniquely powerful capability. RouteMaster Lite is ideal for OB and production environments, supporting up to 20 sources and 20 destinations. The built-in GUI is ideal for preset and take switching, showing resizable video previews and audio metering of the current video and the chosen source.”

No video streams are passed through the router system, instead traffic is redirected at the network level. This means only minimal bandwidth and processor requirements are needed, regardless of the number of video streams and resolution. There’s also no additional video delay through the system. Additionally, RouteMaster Lite does not become a central point of failure: if the router system fails for any reason, video continues to flow from sources to destinations uninterrupted.

Rascular Announces Ross MC1 Channel Branding and Master Control Switcher Helm Control Integration

Rascular, designers of software-based powerful, customisable control and monitoring applications for third-party, professional video technologies, has today announced the availability of comprehensive software control of Ross’ MC1 family of Channel Branding and Master Control Switchers via its flagship control and monitoring system Helm.

Responding to considerable customer interest, Rascular, using Ross’ powerful and flexible openGear® protocol, can now provide user-defined panel control of Ross’ widely deployed MC1 family. This is a significant addition to Helm’s already extensive third-party technology control capabilities. Helm can access not only a wide range of on-air control functionality – keyers, squeezeback transitions, logos, voiceovers and so on – but also configuration and monitoring information. Users can easily design their own panels, using simple dropdown menus, containing only the functionality they require.

PSSI Global Services engineers massive at-home transmission for Rolex 24 Posted: 27/02/2020
PSSI Global Services engineers massive at-home transmission for Rolex 24

For NASCAR’s Rolex 24, PSSI Global Services, the industry leader in live event management, transmission and connectivity solutions, successfully engineered an at-home transmission that included delivery of 32 video paths and 150 audio paths via both satellite and AT&T Global Video Services fiber.

“This was a remarkably complex transmission for what is undoubtedly the biggest at-home transmission in the country,” said PSSI’s Director of Broadcast Sports Rick Ball. “Once again, we have continued to change the game, proving just how much can be accomplished with the right mix of expertise, experience and technology.”

Using two and a half transponders and only one amplifier, the company transmitted three different modulation schemes at the same time. The primary multiplex utilized DVB-S2X/32APSK, while the secondary program multiplex was modulated using DVB-S2X/16APSK, each at 125 Mbps. The third multiplex was 40 Mbps using DVB-S2/8PSK modulation. All together the three multiplexes, totaling 290 Mbps, occupied only 90 MHz of satellite bandwidth.

PSSI International Teleport (PIT) provided extensive hub services between the racetrack in Daytona Beach, Florida, and NASCAR headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In addition to transmission of the video and audio, PSSI Global Services was also responsible for providing comms and internet for production.

NASCAR Selects AWS as its Preferred Cloud Computing, Cloud Machine Learning, and Cloud Artificial Intelligence Provider Posted: 04/06/2019
NASCAR Selects AWS as its Preferred Cloud Computing, Cloud Machine Learning, and Cloud Artificial Intelligence Provider

Today, Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), an Amazon.com company (NASDAQ: AMZN), announced that National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) has chosen AWS as its standard for cloud-based machine learning and artificial intelligence workloads. NASCAR will use the breadth and depth of AWS technologies to build cloud-based services and automate processes, including a new video series on NASCAR.com called This Moment in NASCAR History powered by AWS. The video series will debut heading into the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series™ race at Michigan International Speedway, sharing the greatest historical moments in NASCAR racing with viewers. NASCAR is migrating its 18-petabyte video archive to AWS, and will leverage Amazon Rekognition—an AWS service that adds intelligent image and video analysis to applications—to automatically tag specific video frames with metadata, such as driver, car, race, lap, time, and sponsors so they can easily search those tags to surface the most iconic moments from past races. By using AWS’s services, NASCAR expects to save thousands of hours of manual search time each year, and will be able to easily surface flashbacks like Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s 1987 “Pass in the Grass” or Denny Hamlin’s 2016 Daytona 500 photo finish, and quickly deliver these to fans via video clips on NASCAR.com and social media channels.
