Markus Fraunholz Filmed the Historical Film Frei (eng. Free) with the OConnor 2575

The historical film Frei is a fictitious story about a romance between an SS-Obersturmbannfuhrer and a Jewish Holocaust survivor. The historical backdrop is the ratline, a Nazi escape route after the war. The work on the film took director Bernd Fischauer and DoP Markus Fraunholz to South Tyrol and Trieste. The scenery and atmosphere there had to match those of the original locations among others, Buenos Aires. This required intensive preparation and planning to the last detail. To implement the 88 motifs in 27 days, Fraunholz needed camera support that would precisely carry out every predetermined setting. That is why he depended on the robust and innovative 2575 fluid head by OConnor, a part of Vitec Videocom, a Vitec Group company.

An Unbeatable Team: Alexander Palm and OConnor

 

 At the beginning of the year, DP Alexander Palm documented the "average German" Thomas Mller and his "average life" for the Terra X series "Deutschland wie wir leben" (Engl.: Terra X Germany Who We Are) produced by the German network ZDF. For the scenic sections, the cinematographer accompanied the protagonist throughout his day with the Canon C500. During filming, Palm used two OConnor products, the O-Grips and the 2575 fluid head. OConnor is a part of Vitec Videocom, a Vitec Group company.

DoP Hans Jakobi Relies on the OConnor Ultimate 2575D Head

The documentary "Legacy of Gods", produced by Cinemonde Innovativ and Virtual Experience is a massive project which is to be finished in time for the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. The team finds places all over the world where a wide variety of deities are thought to have lived from Chile to Guatemala, Ethiopia, Nepal, Morocco, Jordan, Turkey, and Israel. On location, the team surrounding German DoP Hans Jakobi will be confronted with the common roots of all faiths and pilgrimage sites. For this purpose, the 3D movie is elevated to a new level with special equipment. For high-resolution 3D pictures, the team films with at least 48 images per second and uses a remote-controlled mini-helicopter. The multi-channel 7.1 Dolby Surround System enables the team to get the right sound.

In the blue hour, the sky shines deep indigo producing an almost magical atmosphere. Any Cinematographers who want to capture the special light in this limited time frame must be able to quickly and dependably work with their equipment. That is why Italian cinematographer Maura Morales Bergmann depended on the versatile 2575 fluid head by OConnor, a part of Vitec Videcom, a Vitec Group company, to shoot the French short film Lheure bleue by director Annarita Zambarano last year.

Michos Takes On Music and Dance With OConnor for Langston Hughes Memoire Black Nativity
Music and dance are a big part of the contemporary adaptation of Langston Hughes holiday musical drama, Black Nativity. It follows Langston (Jacob Latimore), a street-wise teen from Baltimore as he journeys to New York City to spend the Christmas holiday with his estranged grandparents. While attending his Grandfathers church production of Black Nativity, Langston falls asleep and escapes into a dreamscape of song, dance, and a little divine intervention. Practically every dance or song number relied on instinct and the ability to whip pan. Snap zoom, or even grab the focus in the process of discovering the most dynamic shots, says cinematographer Anastas Michos, ASC. Thats where my favorite support the OConnor 2575 was invaluable. Heads are rolling: OConnor for Evil Dead Remake
The Evil Dead is a 1981 classic cult horror movie directed by Sam Raimi and is famous for its bloody content. For the 2013 remake, Evil Dead, Raimi chose Fede Alvarez as director and decided to take the producing role himself alongside Robert Tapert and Bruce Campbell, lead actor and producer of the original film. To fill in the position of the DoP he chose cinematographer Aaron Morton, NZCS, who was also DP for the Starz series Spartacus and part of the camera crew of Underworld 3. The challenge: Shoot a horror movie that wont be polished or enhanced by CGI retroactively and make it as bloody as possible. This task required a fluid head that is reliable and robust enough to cope with sticky artificial blood and allows for total control of camera movements. To meet these conditions Aaron Morton selected a 2575D fluid head by OConnor, part of Vitec Videocom, a Vitec Group company to support his two Sony PMW-F65 cameras.

When Saturday Night Live film unit cinematographer Alex Buono decided to share his knowledge of the industry in a big way with a 31-city educational tour he calls The Art of Visual Storytelling, the first pieces of equipment he chose for his travel package were fluid heads by OConnor, part of Vitec Videocom, a Vitec Group company. My biggest mandate in deciding to plan a workshop is that Im demonstrating with the exact tools that I actually use in my professional work, he says. OConnor fluid heads are probably the most ubiquitous piece of gear on my sets. I literally have an OConnor on every single shoot, so it was an imperative of mine to include OConnor in this workshop.

Australian DP Adrian Cranage lived through some eventful months in 2012. Together with actor and director Til Schweiger, the DP made two films back to back: Schutzengel and Kokowh 2. Adrian Cranage used his 2575D fluid head by OConnor, part of Vitec Videocom, a Vitec Group company, to contribute to the successful films. "Without my well-coordinated team and OConnor, our project would not have been possible," says the experienced cinematographer.
