NEWS MANIPULATE & EDIT EDIT STORAGE Stop-motion animation studio Laika and post house Gorilla Post are among the new customers for Avid’s Nexis, the software-defined storage platform. Launched at NAB 2016, Nexis is powered by the MediaCentral platform and offers dynamic virtualisation and “media-savvy” collaboration features. Oregon’s Laika has bought an Avid Nexis E4 for its current and future animated feature films while Gorilla Post in Dublin-based has expanded its workflow to include Avid Nexis E2. Other new customers include the Canadian broadcaster CBC, the independent TV production company Spun Gold, the post facility The Edit and the French sports news channel Infosport+. Sky Italia and Discovery Networks MENA are also new customers. Jeff Rosica, senior vice president and chief sales and marketing officer at Avid, said: “With strong adoption across the globe, post-production organisations and broadcasters are reaping the benefits of the industry’s first and only software-defined storage platform by accelerating production and increasing efficiency.” I/O PROJECTION SCREENS Studio design consultancy White Mark has becomes an official dealer for Screen Excellence. The agreement means that the company is able to supply a range of acoustically transparent projection screens that don’t distort 4k images. White Mark designs suites and studios for audio post production facilities, broadcast, film dubbing and video editing rooms. Screen Excellence is a UK-based company that specialises in high quality projection screens. “If you want to mount speakers behind a screen, which is usually the case in Dolby-certified surround sound and Atmos post facilities, you need an acoustically transparent material that won’t impact on sound quality,” said White Mark director Alan Cundell. “However, sourcing the right screen can be an issue because its not always easy to find the quality professional facilities need at the right price.” Screen Excellence offers a range of proprietary screen fabrics that feature a neutral projection surface and are perfectly white so they don’t distort colours. 16 | KITPLUS - THE TV-BAY MAGAZINE: ISSUE 119 NOVEMBER 2016 Dektec have introduced the new DTA-2179 with twelve 3G-SDI/ASI Ports for PCIe.
