NEWS MOVE & DELIVER CLOUD PLAYOUT FIBRE SIS LIVE is to provide fibre connectivity for Sky Sports’ Ultra High Definition (UHD) coverage of English Premier League football from the start of the 2016/17 season. The Anylive fibre network will be used to send pictures and sound from each football ground at up to 850 Mbit/s via SIS LIVE’s network operation centres in MediaCityUK and Milton Keynes and onto Sky Sports’ studios in Osterley. HD reverse vision feeds will be delivered as part of the service, and SIS LIVE is providing Sky Sports with network control on match days using Net Insight’s Nimbra Touch and Switch technology. Keith Lane, director of operations, Sky Sports said: “We have a long relationship with SIS LIVE and know we can rely on them to work closely with our teams to deliver high standards.” SIS LIVE will be exhibiting at IBC on stand 1.C55. Broadcasters will be given the chance to virtualise an end-to-end workflow and launch OTT channels on-the-go if they opt for a cloud playout platform to be showcased by Amagi (stand 2.B19) at IBC. The Cloudport 3.0 multichannel playout system is said to support the entire broadcast workflow from ingest to playout and allow it to be managed remotely through a web browser. Previously requiring proprietary hardware, Cloudport now works with an Intel server, is hosted on Amazon Web Services, supports live broadcast and is UHD compatible. For making money out of live and linear OTT feeds, Amagi offers its Thunderstorm OTT ad insertion platform. This dynamically inserts ads on the server side to help simplify the delivery of personalised and targeted commercials. PLAYOUT VIEWING EXPERIENCES The Experience Intelligence (EI) engine will be a key part of Comigo’s showcase at IBC this year. Comigo EI takes what the company describes as “a holistic approach to content and user interaction” and also provides automatic metadata enrichment. Key elements include EI Cloud, a Platform-as- a-Service (PaaS) that is capable of working with any OTT backend. It exposes APIs to any frontend in order to quickly roll out content-related applications and services for viewer engagement. EI Cloud has an open SDK (Software Developers Kit). Another element of EI is WatchApps. These are HTML5 widgets that are backed by the EI Cloud and enable an enhanced viewing experience through the placement of interactive apps that provide “contextual value” to the viewer, across devices. 30 | KITPLUS - THE TV-BAY MAGAZINE: ISSUE 116 AUGUST 2016 Pixel Power (stand 7.A31) will use IBC to push its claim to be the “go-to provider of full-functionality, reactive, linear channel playout in the cloud.” On show will be StreamMaster the virtualised playout platform that includes real-time DVE and 3D graphics, mixing of live feeds using the built-in software master control switcher, and automated branding and cross-channel promotion. “The opportunities that virtualisation and the cloud open up are transformative and positive for the industry, and Pixel Power with its experience in no-compromise software and image quality is ideally placed to deliver on those opportunities,” said James Gilbert, chief executive of Pixel Power.” Also at IBC Pixel Power will show a new release of Pixel Factory, the automated content production system, plus Pixel Promote, which automatically creates and inserts marketing and promotional content, and the Clarity Graphics system.
