CDN SERVICES Broadpeak will use Anga Com 2016 in Germany to tout version 1.3 of its nanoCDN software, which now features multicast ABR (adaptive-bit-rate) delivery. The company will also launch version 2.3 of its analytics product the BkA100. This allows operators and content providers to collect data from users’ devices. Also at the show will be version 3.1 of the umbrellaCDN, which is said to improve quality of experience though the use of CDN Diversity, and a new delivery technology for improving video browsing on tablets and smartphones. At the same time it has been revealed that VTVcab, a pay-TV operator in Vietnam, has deployed BkS400 video cache servers, the BkA100, the BkM100 CDN manager and the umbrellaCDN to power its new OTT multiscreen services. SOCIAL TV At Broadcast Asia, Vimond showcased a way for viewers to socialise while watching online television. Using Vimond Connect viewers can comment on content as they watch, but the comments are anchored to the exact moment in the video when they were posted, allowing the comments to be seen at the same point by VOD viewers watching later. This enables a spoiler-free conversation around television content between viewers watching at different times, with a spontaneous social experience. Also on show was Vimond IO, a browser-based frame-accurate multi-user storytelling tool for journalists and video professionals that completes the transcoding process in the background while users put together stories and clips using source material. LIVE IP VIDEO TVU Networks showcased its TVU Command Centre and TVU Alert at Broadcast Asia. TVU Command Centre provides centralised management control of video content and has tools for managing live video transmitters and receivers, the switching, routing and distribution of live video feeds and GPS location tracking of live transmitters in the field. TVU Alert sends instant text-based notifications to groups of users. TVU One, TVU Grid and TVU Anywhere were also on show.
