Out of the box! A new tool arrived in the KitPlus offices a few weeks ago. Since we work on MacBook Pros here it can be a little tiresome connecting all of your devices… Time Machine back up drive, 2nd monitor, wired network, Wacom tablet, etc. The DVI monitor and the Ethernet adaptors will occupy the two thunderbolt ports and the 2 USB ports are taken by the Time machine drive and the tablet… all of which are plugged and unplugged daily. Now I know that things are better built nowadays but even thunderbolt connectors, that begin life nice and tight with a positive feel will very soon become sloppy and loose. Introducing the Sonnet Echo 15+ to save the day! Connectivity is its middle name. With one single Thunderbolt 2 connector it provides you with all the connectivity you could wish for (pretty much!) The unit we’re using has a pair of 500GB SSD’s and a Blu-ray burner. Optical media is still useful for larger files and archiving. On the front panel we have two USB3 ports that also offer enough power to charge mobile devices and 3.5mm headphone and microphone jack. Two USB ports on the front is surprisingly useful I now realise. On the rear of the Echo 15+ we get the rest of the connections. • Two Thunderbolt 2 ports (secured by Sonnet’s own ThunderLok) • Two USB 3 ports • Two eSATA ports • Gigabit Ethernet • FireWire 800 • 3.5mm jack audio out • 3.5mm jack audio in • Power Kit Plus 91x133.qxp_Layout 1 06/05/2015 10:10 Page 1 Be proud of your sound Wireless Microphones Wireless IEM I connected the Thunderbolt 2 to my Mac, installed the driver and connected all my devices. Now I only need to connect one Thunderbolt cable to my mac daily and I have a solid, heavy duty dock to connect my media drives, headphones, iPhone, etc. The case is not quite flat on top and not quite wide enough for my monitor stand to sit comfortably but this is how I had it on my desk. Once you have decided where on your desk it will live, access to the rear is still important, and the unit is not small, then I can honestly say that it’s the best dock we’ve seen for a professional environment.
