NEWS MANAGE & MONITOR T&M CTV Outside Broadcast has bought an additional Leader LV 5770A 3G/ HD/SD-SDI multi-monitor signal analyser. A compact device that supports 3G, HD dual link, HD-SDI and SD-SDI signal formats, it was supplied by Leader’s UK reseller Thameside TV. Using the LV 5770A, signal amplitudes, vector, data, colour bars and programme picture can be viewed individually or in quad-split mode on the instrument’s integral 6.3 inch XGA LCD screen. “We now have three LV 5770A instruments,” said Paul Francis, CTV’s head of VTR. “They are used in a range of test and measurement roles during major outside broadcast productions, monitoring video signal quality.” Leader has added the LV7390 to its range of test equipment and signal analysers. The multi-standard rasterizer is capable of measuring up to four SDI signals at the same time. Compatible with 3G-SDI, HD-SDI and SD-SDI, it incorporates a full- resolution HD-SDI rasterizing output that allows operators to check detailed video and audio parameters on the display screen of their choice. Operated from the front panel or via a plug-in pointing device, the LV 7390 can be customized to show a variety of waveform combinations. Measurement capabilities include waveform and vector display plus a reference marker that can be placed at any position on the user’s external screen. It also includes Leader’s CINELITE feature. The Dutch network is being recognized for its use of NUGEN Audio’s DynApt algorithm to create a loudness-normalized workflow for film soundtrack adaptation.  Seeking to improve audio quality for broadcasting films and drama series within the guidelines of the EBU R128 loudness normalization standard SBS used DynApt to automatically analyse the loudness levels throughout a piece of audio and then control a configurable maximum difference between programme loudness and average voice level. Archiving Sony has announced a partnership with Belgium’s Memnon Archiving Services, a digital preservation provider responsible for digitising, restoring and preserving audio-visual archives. Sony’s Media Lifecycle Services and Memnon will now jointly offer their technology and industrial workflow proficiency and experience to customers. Memnon has worked with Danish Radio, the British Library, Bibliothque Nationale de France and Indiana University, while Sony digitally converts and distributes over 150 million files for organisations such as BBC Worlwide and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
