NEWS MOVE & DELIVER Encoding Vitec has launched the MGW Ace, a hardware-based HEVC portable device for encoding and streaming video. Featuring HEVC (H.265) bandwidth-efficient compression as well as legacy H.264 capabilities it is suitable for live news broadcasts and sports venues, amongst other things. The MGW Ace is equipped with a wide selection of I/Os and offers low power consumption using Vitec’s HEVC compression chip. “By introducing our all-new portable MGW Ace appliance, we’re providing on-location applications with the world’s first and only 100-percent hardware-based HEVC (H.265) device for encoding and streaming video,” said Philippe Wetzel, chief executive of Vitec. Newsgathering At Broadcast Asia, AVIWEST demonstrated the latest enhancements to its Digital Mobile News Gathering (DMNG) system, the integrated cloud- based offering for breaking news and live events coverage. The DMNG Studio server is capable of receiving incoming streams from DMNG video uplink systems as well as third-party products such as IP cameras through a variety of protocols such as RTP, RSTP, TS over UDP, HLS, and RTMP. The Linux-based server supports multiple output formats, allowing for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint video distribution.
