NEWS MANIPULATE & EDIT Audio expansion At NAB Calrec unveiled two compact aluminium expansion units that can be used to expand and distribute a Hydra2 network. The new Fieldbox range of small-format I/O units brings the advantages of Calrec’s Hydra2 stagebox to rugged environments and areas where rack space is at a premium. These 1U half-rack units are for OB environments where I/O needs to be spread over a large area, such as a golf course. Fieldboxes can be located and distributed using two high-capacity network cables for full redundancy. Calrec product manager Peter Walker said: “The Fieldbox functions just like any other Hydra2 I/O box, providing remote control over input settings that utilize Hydra2’s sophisticated sharing, protection, and access management system, along with active status monitoring and a backup Hydra2 network connection.” Acquisitions Orad, famous for its virtual sets, graphics and MAM technology, is to be sold to Avid for €5.67 per share, an acquisition that values the Israeli company at about €66m (£48m). Avid said that it “expects that the combined company will further its position as the most comprehensive provider of content creation to distribution workflows for broadcast and media customers around the world.” Avi Sharir, the chief executive of Orad added: “Avid’s global scale and distribution network provide significant opportunities for customer support, growth and market expansion.” Replay and time-shift At NAB Fast Forward Video (FFV) presented the Studio Pro Replay, a compact JPEG2000 (J2K) digital video recorder for replay and time-shift applications. The new addition to FFV’s Omega HD family, the Studio Pro Replay is designed for broadcast time delay, slow-motion sports replay, and event staging applications. Kent McGuire, president of FFV said: “Whether the customer is a sports network looking to advance its instant replay capabilities, or a live event broadcast seeking to avoid ‘wardrobe malfunctions’ by adding a set time delay to the on-air feed, the Studio Pro Replay provides a powerful solution. At the same time, the Studio Pro Replay is easily the market’s most compact and affordable replay system, costing thousands of dollars less than competing products.” 16 | KITPLUS - THE TV-BAY MAGAZINE: ISSUE 101 MAY 2015
