NEWS CAPTURE & PRODUCE Emmy-nominated cinematographer Pieter de Vries will present a series of free 30-minute masterclasses in conjunction with Miller Camera Support at NAB (booth C9520). The ACS-accredited director of photography, in partnership with Michael Abelev, Miller’s design engineer and head of design team, will share tricks of the trade with visitors across four sessions, running from Monday to Thursday. “Having travelled to more than 90 countries, I’ve covered an expansive range of creative content within my work, from coverage of sublime musical performances of Vivaldi to an in-depth scope of the Titanic ruins along the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean,” said de Vries. “I look forward to sharing my stories and some helpful tips with cinematographers at NAB and am thankful to Miller for offering me the platform to share my voice with fellow enthusiasts.” Planned sessions include ‘Pre- Shoot Preparation and Avoiding Common Shooting Mistakes’ and ‘Following Movement-Handheld on the Tripod.’ Shotoku Broadcast Systems will mark its 70th Anniversary by launching a new compact and lightweight pneumatic pedestal at NAB (booth C7033). The TP500 is capable of supporting camera payloads of up to 121 lbs. (55 kg.) and ranges from 26.2 (665mm) to 58.5 (1,485mm) in height. It is suitable for multi-location use such as OB, studio or event production. The robust modular design allows simple transportation between locations, without compromising its ability to provide a stable platform for camera operators. The pedestal is ideally paired with Shotoku’s SX300 and SH100/120 pan and tilt heads. Shotoku managing director Tony Hanada said: “NAB allows us vital time to learn more about the needs of our US and global customers, while sharing our latest solutions such as our new pneumatic pedestal and rail system. As always, we look forward to showcasing our full-range of remote camera systems for TV live news, sports and current affairs as well as government and legislative applications at this years show alongside our series of manual support gear used by production professionals around the globe.” Also on show will be SmartTrack, the smart rail camera system.
