Video delivery OTT TalkTalk has chosen an integrated headend set-up from Harmonic to help deliver the YouView IPTV service. Utilizing Harmonic’s Electra 9200 universal multiservice encoder and ProStream 9100 with ACE stream processor and transcoder, TalkTalk will deliver live and VOD content and an increased channel line-up to subscribers’ set-top boxes. “To deliver our growing range of content to more than a million subscribers, we needed an IPTV headend solution that would increase our encoding effi ciency and support future growth,“ said Naresh Raj, broadcast systems team leader at TalkTalk Group. “Harmonic’s integrated video processing solutions provide outstanding video quality while lowering our capital and operating expenses through density and scalability.“ Synapse TV is being used to help re-launch Vision TV on Freeview in the UK. The new incarnation will be accessed via the Freeview EPG and will steam a number of UK and international free-to-air channels to compatible Freeview HD connected TVs and boxes. Synapse TV uses technology from Strategy & Technology (S&T) and specialist third parties to provide a cloud-based managed service for content owners and aggregators. It allows over-the-top (OTT) delivery of on-demand content and linear services. A number of content monetisation models are supported, including BARB-rated linear advertising, targeted on-demand advert insertion, pay-per-view and subscriptions. Media transport Playout servers Ownership of Artel Video Systems has been passed to its employees following the creation of the Artel Video Systems Corporation Employee Ownership Trust. The Trust was formed as an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), a tool used in America to “provide employee loyalty and dedication to their organization.“ There are currently more than 9,000 active ESOPs in the US. New playout servers and integrated software were installed by engineering staff from PlayBox Technology’s Asia Pacifi c offi ce in Kuala Lumpur, replacing two AirBox servers in main and redundant confi guration.
