elcome to issue 77.
So NAB has been and gone, there were new releases, updates and the
normal “coming later this year” announcements. We trawled the halls
with our BroadcastShow camera crew and you can catch up with all the
interviews in Las Vegas on the NAB event page of www.broadcastshow.com.
One thing I noticed on the Las Vegas flight was the amount of people using noise
cancelling headphones these days. Not only are they more comfortable for 10 hours
than the airline variety but they do have certain other qualities! In this audio focused
issue we bring you news of a new model hitting the streets with a great intro price tag
attached, see page 56.
There has been lots of coverage for loudness in the past and now we can update you
with some neat solutions, latest regulations and hopefully answer some commonly
asked questions on the topic from a number of industry experts.
There are many microphones on the market, different sizes and of course intended for
different applications – just how to choose the right one though could be down
to experience and if you get it wrong then it can be costly!
Take a look at our guide inside…
A friend of tv-bay, Ben Darby, from Stream UK completed the London Marathon last
month, his story on page 68 doesn’t focus on training or pain but instead an inspired
streaming project which in time just might become the norm for mass public events.
May 2013 is the start of our road show, namely The BroadcastShow Tour. This
inaugural event will spend a day in London, Glasgow, Manchester and Cardiff before
finishing up in Bristol. We’re lucky enough to be joined by Jonathan Harrison and
Rick Young offering seminars at every venue as well as Soho Editors giving taster
workshops on the latest edit and grading packages. Plus of course the 20+ exhibitors
we have showing products, many just launched at NAB. It’s not
too late to come along, just visit www.broadcastshowtour.com
to find out all the news and register – it’s all free, we’ll even
buy you a coffee!
