JVC innovations T he GY-HM600 and GY-HM650 camcorders, as demonstrated at IBC, are now launching across Europe, and are ideal for news, sports and independent production. With a number of innovative features, including dual codecs for simultaneous recording and fast data transfer via FTP on the GY-HM650, the camcorders will be a popular addition to JVC’s ProHD line-up. In addition, JVC recently launched a new professional near- grade one 17" production monitor, featuring RGB LED backlights for exceptional performance and colour. JVC focussed heavily on its professional camera and monitor range at this year’s IBC event, and how these integrate into production and broadcast workflows. The GY-HM600 ProHD ENG camcorder, as featured on this month’s live tv-bay Broadcast Show, shoots and delivers news footage faster than ever. Along with its FTP- and dual codec-enabled sibling, the GY-HM650, these advanced handheld cameras deliver exceptional imagery and features for news, sports, and independent production in an attractive form factor with intuitive user-friendly controls. Breaking news – get it back to the studio fast Light, versatile and extremely easy to use, the new camcorders are designed for fast paced ENG, delivering exceptional imagery and features for news, sports and independent production. Each camcorder has three 1/3-inch 12- bit full-HD CMOS sensors (1920 x 1080) and offers superb low light performance of F12 at 2000 lux. Where fast recording in formats suitable for broadcasting is essential, the GY-HM650 ProHD handheld mobile news camera adds dual codecs to its extensive list of features. It can produce full HD files on one memory card while simultaneously creating smaller, web-friendly files (1/4 HD or SD) on a second card. With built-in FTP and network connectivity, the GY-HM650 delivers the footage back to a station without a microwave or satellite connection, ideal for breaking an important story as soon as it happens. Both the GY-HM600 and GY-HM650 camcorders are equipped with the newly-developed Fujinon wide angle 23x zoom lens, providing the highest magnification in the industry. Delivering superior low-light performance and ensuring brightness at the tele end, the lens offers F1.6- 3.0, a focal range of 29mm-667mm (35mm equivalent) and includes servo zoom, manual focus, and iris rings, along with a four-position (clear, 1/4, 1/16 and 1/64) ND filter. The camcorders record HD or SD footage in multiple file formats – including native MP4 (XDCAM EX™), MOV (Quicktime), MTS (AVCHD) and H.264 – to non-proprietary SDHC or SDXC media cards. Dual card slots make them truly versatile, offering relay and simultaneous recording. The GY-HM650 also supports the new AS-10 format (MXF for production) and MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 codec wrapped as an MOV. A built-in web server allows you to take full control of the camera – including focus, zoom, iris and metadata editing – via any browser-enabled device such as a tablet or phone, with no additional software required. Near grade 1 production monitor JVC has just launched a new 17” full HD RGB 10-bit panel – the DT- V17G15 – to add to its professional DT-V Series, creating a cost-effective near-grade 1 production monitor. With RGB LEDs aligned over the panel, each different coloured light helps provide a higher colour gamut overall, with exceptional accuracy. This is often particularly noticeable on skin tones, where this technology provides very realistic colour reproduction. With these new camcorders and monitor, JVC continues to deliver affordable technological innovations for professional video. 66 | TV-BAY MAGAZINE TV-BAY071NOV12.indd 66 06/11/2012 18:10
