NAB 2012 Next-generation functionality S ound Devices introduced new functionality for its popular PIX 240 portable audio/video recorder at NAB.  This latest firmware update, Version 2, now makes PIX 240 even more powerful with the addition of several monitoring features. Advanced power solutions A nton/Bauer demonstrated the advanced capabilities of its power solutions to broadcast and video professionals at NAB. Anton/ Bauer showcased the MATRIX Cheese Plate, a new mounting plate that can be used with the companys Gold Mount Solutions for the Sony PMW-F3 camera and NEX-FS-100; Canon EOS 5D Mark II, EOS 7D, EOS 60D Digital SLR camera and the EOS C300; Panasonic AG-AF100 series professional HD camera and RED EPIC digital cinema camera. Innovation in T & M H amlet focused its NAB2012 presence on the latest developments in everyday tools for content producers who want to get it right first time. Centre stage was the latest developments to the compact and cost-effective DigiScope DS900, and the highly flexible software VidScope-Plus QC toolset.  The DS900 is a remarkably space- efficient device, incorporating up to six modular digital input boards in a half-width 1U cabinet. Modules available are capable of providing all routine tests on any video format up to 3G-SDI (level A and B), including one with digital eye pattern testing for front- line maintenance, and another with serial digital and analogue combined enabling reverse compatibility tests. The range includes a test signal generator generating high precision signals for 22 common tests, including pathological, bars, sweeps and multi-burst, with embedded audio where appropriate. Sound Devices PIX 240 firmware Version 2 now enables users to monitor images in varying exposures through Exposure Assist, a feature that allows for false-color and zebra-stripes viewing. It is also equipped with Focus Assist, which includes a peaking filter and 1:1 pixel zoom. Monitor brightness, contrast and chroma adjustments are also now available. Version 2 of PIX 240 also includes standard definition recording (NTSC and PAL) and support for using simultaneous analog and SDI/HDMI audio inputs. These new features are available as a free firmware update to all PIX 240 users and can be downloaded by visiting download/pix-firmware.htm.
