A Sound in Motion QA
Antonio Morais “A Sound in Motion started as a camera test for the new Sony VENICE CineAlta 6K Digital Cinema Camera and evolved into a much bigger project. The film, presented by Golpe Filmes and released this summer, was directed/edited by Ricardo Teixeira. It is a fictional story based on the way deaf people adapt themselves to daily life situations. The intent of the film is to be a positive influence in the way people think about the ‘differences in human beings’ and about issues related to social inclusion, but without turning it into something moralistic or that seems fundamentalist. Through sounds not speech, words or verbal expression we want to relay a positive message and display a clear gaze upon that difference.”

Libec TH-X Tripod review
Nick Robbins It is worth highlighting that I am primarily an Editor. Like many of us, over the years I have regularly been involved in the entire creative process in some capacity but increasingly I am asked to go out and film the simpler corporate jobs such as exhibition stands or a 'piece to camera' for YouTube, Vimeo etc. and embedded into the customer's web site. These tend to be the jobs which wouldn't happen at all if the client had to pay for the whole package; camera, sound, director, kit hire, etc.

Smaller Cameras Result in Big Changes in Fluid Heads and Camera Support Solutions
N/A As technology progresses, videographers find themselves dealing with smaller cameras that become the flavor of the week, but are soon replaced six months later by technology that makes them even tinier. With this has come a new way of thinking of camera support solutions. Fluid heads that were originally designed to support smaller, more entry-level type camera models are many times not able to handle all of the camera peripherals, such as lenses and monitors, employed in a more professional shoot.

Getting to grip with it with Mark Scotton
Mark Scotton

Getting the right equipment to ensure you add value to your production can be difficult, especially when there are so many products available that all seem to be offering different solutions. Creating moving shots can be done in a variety of ways by using products such as jibs, cranes, tracking dollies, sliders or stabilizers, the key is identifying which item is going to be best suited to your requirements and which version would be the best to purchase.

Getting back to basics on HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR GRIP AND SUPPORT SYSTEMS
N/A When looking to purchase grip and support systems there are now a variety of different options available to the dedicated cameraman and this potential minefield of different equipment, at varying prices, can seem daunting and confusing at first. Whats the difference between a shoulder support, steady mount and a stabilizer? Are slide rail systems really the best tracking option for my camera? Can I put a DSLR on that mount?

Eye to Eye: Getting a grip
N/A Cameras and camcorders are shrinking at such a rapid rate that a lot of today's established support devices are looking completely out of scale. In some aisles of the NAB 2010 Central Hall, visitors were at perpetual risk of colliding with excited demonstrators nipping hither and yon with hand-held stabilisers for DSLRs. Most were only for single camera 2D but watch out for the 3D redesign at IBC in September or at NAB 2011.

One man and his boat
N/A It all started when I decided to build a boat in the garage. A fifteen-foot gaff rigged pocket cruiser to be precise. I searched the Internet for a DVD about boat building for beginners but found nothing. So I rang the boat builder who cut the planks and he agreed that there was nothing out there to be found. I gave it some thought over the next few weeks and made a decision. Id been helping other people make their programmes for more than 20 years; maybe now it was time to make my own.
