With all the talk of Final Cut Pro X, Premiere CS 5.5 and Avid Media Composer, some people are starting to forget about our much-loved EDIUS. Well, Editors Keys is about to launch a brand new EDIUS keyboard, so in honor of this new product, I’m going to share some of the top EDIUS 6 Keyboard shortcuts. (Hopefully saving your hours of time in the edit! It’s my mission to get you out of that edit studio and into the pub, just a little earlier!)

Top Ten EDIUS 6 keyboard shortcuts:
1.) Where would you be without the ‘Set In’ and ‘Set Out’ keys?
Luckily, the ‘Set in’ and ‘Set Out’ keys are positioned in what is quickly becoming the industry standard position of I and O.
2.) So you’ve used your eagle eye abilities to spot the perfect shot and used the ‘Set In’ and ‘Set Out’ keys to mark your perfect clip. Now how do you quickly get this lovely shot onto the timeline? The fastest way is by simply using the ‘E’ Key.
3.) What if you’d like to ‘Insert’ or ‘Overwrite’ this clip, rather than just shoving it into the timeline? You can do this by using your PC keyboards ‘Insert’ key as pictured below:
4.) Wouldn’t it be great to be able to quickly toggle the audio on or off at will, so you can get concentrate on the wonderful video effect you’re trying to pull off? Well now you can, simply by hitting the ‘No. 8’ key on your number row:
5.) So you’ve got a few clips on the timeline and the edit is coming along just fine. Let’s save you some more time by allowing you to play through your footage without so much as touching your mouse. Use the ‘J’, ‘K’ and ‘L’ keys to ‘Reverse’, ‘Pause’ or ‘Fast Forward’ through your footage.
6.) Matching the frame is a very handy tool indeed, even handier when you can do it in one fell swoop. Push the ‘F’ key now to access it.
7.) If you need more content, you’re going to need to visit your ‘asset bin’ once in a while, get to yours by simply hitting the ‘B’ key. Now let’s take a look at all your creative footage!
8.) They say a picture can tell a thousand words, but sometimes words can save time and tell your audience exactly what you need them to know. To instantly create a brand new title, hit the ‘T’ key.
9.) You now already know how to ‘Set In’ and ‘Set Out’ with your keyboard by your side, but what if you’ve watched the clip back and realized it’s not quite what you wanted. Let’s scrap both the in and out points at the same time by giving the ‘X’ key a gentle tap.
10.) Being able to access each channel at your beck and call can be a true timesaver, “but how can I access all four channels” I hear you scream? Well fear not, tapping the keys from 1-4 give you access to each of the four channels.
I hope these few shortcuts have helped speed up your EDIUS editing just that little bit more. Feel free to Tweet me for any more tips, or write to TVBay if you’d like to ask me any questions.
