Issue 99 - March 2015

Walking through the halls of BVE 2015 it would be hard not to acknowledge the bustling atmosphere, positive vibes and busy aisles. The show attracted a high quality and diverse audience from across the broadening content creation industry seeing over 15,000* key industry decision makers including leading indies, post houses, DOPs, broadcasters and brands attend in full force, with many hailing it the best show yet.
The show promised and delivered a plethora of world class speakers within its seminar programme including Keynote speakers Richard Ayoade and Catherine Hardwicke. During the show, speakers and panelists took the steer and provided a wide array of penetrating industry insight and debate to delegates. The huge queue to attend Richard Ayoade and Adam Buxton in conversation, combined with visions of daily overflowing theatres, underlined the high calibre and relevancy of the speakers that BVE secured for 2015.
As well as established speakers sitting in the theatres, new features such as Raindance's Live! Ammunition! came to life. This was a new feature at this year's BVE, which not only demonstrated the show's commitment to the production services industry but also to the development of future filmmakers. Candidates were given the chance to pitch film ideas to a panel of film executives - an opportunity near impossible in other circumstances.
The show floor played just as much of a part of the action. This is where visitors could see for themselves how much the show has grown. Major players such as JVC and ARRI chose to launch new products at the show - something that is usually reserved for the larger shows. This development reveals a lot about the growth of the show and the importance of the UK industry as a whole. Many other products were unveiled at the show, including Exalux' Brix modular lighting system, Amagi's Stormplus satellite and cloud IRD, and Toughnut's WMT Agile 2.0 R video tramsmission backpack.
Established exhibitor, Joanna Kaliniecka-Williamson, Marketing & Communications Co-Ordinator, VizRT, said, "Vizrt has exhibited at BVE since its inception a decade ago and this third year at the ExCeL saw our stand the busiest ever! The increase in footfall year on year is remarkable - we had a fantastic show. We plan to come back next year with an even bigger stand."

Returning to the show floor was the KitPlus/ TV-Bay studio, a platform for panels, seminar previews, tech spotlights and reports direct from exhibitor stands to be streamed live, enabling exhibitors and delegates to convey their insights and messages and furthering the reach of the show's highlights. The team also filmed many of the sessions which are now available to view at www.bvexpo.com/Content/BVE-2015-Video-Gallery
BVE 2015 also saw record numbers of new exhibitors including Aerialworx, Broaman, Ooona, StypeGRIP, Telenor Satellite Broadcasting, West End Studios, Trickbox TV and Pinewood Studios, further proof that the show is broadening its broadcast intake, incorporating all four corners of the industry.
First time exhibitor, Nick Dew, Director at Really Creative Media, said, "This was our first time at BVE and the first time we have exhibited at a broadcast-based event. It has exceeded our expectations with the number of people we have spoken to from the production services sector, and we've seen a good mixture of bookers and influencers. It has definitely been worthwhile to exhibit at BVE."
The new elements and features of the 2015 show solidified its view on the evolution of the broadcast industry, expanding and introducing partners from non-traditional sectors including marketing and AV. With this in mind, the show organisers are now building on the diverse visitor and exhibitor profile at this year's show and the continuing convergence of the UK's creative industries with plans for London Entertainment Week 2016, a week-long series of events built around an expanded BVE show. The event will encompass film, TV, commercials, theatre, brands/corporate, AV, live events and gaming. Supporters to date include Raindance, EVCOM, the IABM, Escape Studios, VFX Festival 2016, ABTT and BKSTS.

Alison Willis, Portfolio Director, said, "We're so pleased with the response we've had to this year's BVE. The feedback we have received so far has been phenomenal - nearly 80% of the showfloor has already been rebooked for 2016, including leading names such as WTS, Sony, JVC and ARRI - and we have strong support for our plans to create a broader event next year. We are already investing heavily in diverse content and wider marketing campaigns to involve and enthuse all sectors of the UK creative industries. The world of broadcast is converging and I see it as our responsibility to lead the field and provide the UK Broadcast businesses and associates with the platform needed to move the industry forward."
2015 has shown BVE as a force to be reckoned with, with proven growth and major exhibitors investing more trust in the delegates who attend, demonstrated by the product launches of ARRI and JVC. Next year is set to be the most exciting yet with an ambitious week long celebration of the British creative industry. Bring on February 2016!
