Just before we all broke up for Christmas we took delivery of a new \'thing\' at KitPlus HQ. Our first reaction was surprise and a little curious as to how it was going to make itself useful. What\'s the point?
The innovative new HFMP (Hands Free Mono Pod) certainly got us thinking. Where other monopods fall over, this one stands strong! It was specifically designed for hands free operation and it works pretty well! The KIT version comes with a fluid head.
The large feet fold out easily and quickly, and the sections extend smoothly and positively. The handy strap and foam grip at the top make it more secure in operation. The addition of a video head makes sense.
There is a cleverly designed foot pedal to unlock the ball joint at the base of the monopod. This articulation allows the freedom of movement you would normally associate with a monopod. With the video head as well, you can move well and control your shots with confidence. Once upright you can click the foot pedal again, lock it in position and walk away...
The video head (included with the KIT only) is a \'Dual Head\' structure allowing you to attach it to a flat base, the monopod, and a 65mm bowl, your tripod maybe? Further to this, the snap on/off adaptor plate (Manfrotto/Sachtler compatible) makes mounting and removing the camera fast and easy.
The payload with the video head is 4kg, it weighs just under 3kg and extends to 190cm.
In the long term, I\'m interested how the feet will hold up in muddy conditions. they appear easy enough to clean though. And I\'m not sure I would feel comfortable leaving an expensive camera unattended for long. I would want to be close enough to catch it, and this is where the snap on/off plate helps.
Great value for money at less than 200GBP and a useful, light weight addition to any camera kit.
Most notable features: Snap on/off plate, ball joint system, fold out feet, dual head, bag included.
