I studied media at GCSE and studied photography and video for a year at AS level before switching to a full time video course. In July 2011, I had a serious downhill mountain bike crash initially rendering me paralysed and having a massive impact on my life. Learning to walk again and rebuilding your body isnt easy but allows you to put your life and your goals in perspective, giving you an unbeatable mindset. I no longer ride mountain bikes, my main passion for over 8 years, but instead focus on making sure I really get what I want in life.
My career aims arent set in stone, but I dont ever think they should be. I try to shoot a wide range of projects that allow me to gain experience and build on my skills in ways they perhaps may not have otherwise developed. Over the next year I will be working incredibly hard in order to get into my third year, whilst at the same time developing and creating a new showreel and CV that will hopefully allow me to get a foot within the industry. I am 19 years old and I enjoy filming and photographing pretty much anything. I have a passion for horror films which often worries my parents, Im not too sure why. I think my interest in film making started when I found myself watching the bonus features on DVDs before actually watching the film. I realised the time and effort that goes into creating these films and I thought thats what I want to do. I started learning about the media industry at Weymouth College studying BTEC Film and Television in 2010 and since I joined that course Ive been enjoying every aspect of my study of the industry.
I didnt really think about what I was getting into when I joined the foundation degree. I thought it would be just a continuation of the BTEC course but I was very wrong. It was a whole new level. We have worked on all kinds of projects including working with real-world clients such a local radio station that were having their launch event on Weymouth beach in May and wanted the whole event captured and edited into a video showcasing the talent and the atmosphere of the launch party.

Im a 19 year old media student, studying at Weymouth College, a partnership College that works alongside Bournemouth University.
The Foundation Degree in Commercial Video with Multimedia, I think, was the perfect course for me to follow to achieve where I want to be for my career. The course caters for a maximum of 16 students so we have a close relationship and work together as a team for many of the projects. The location could not be any more ideal, being in the heart of Weymouth it gives us the advantage of having beautiful scenic surroundings but also offers work opportunities with local clients so we can build relationships with them and also be recognised around the community.
One of the most memorable projects from last year was producing a music video - after having completed all the preproduction work, at the last minute our actors fell through. We knew that we now only had a few days to find new actors, shoot and edit the whole production but even though the entire process was very tiring and stressful, it is one of my favourites just because of the sheer momentum and the outcome we achieved in such a short space of time. Now 23, it wasnt until I was offered a role in Harry Potter Deathly Hallows Part 2 that I got an insight to filming on location, design, green/blue screen and lighting - and realized I wanted to actually study a course on the media industry. I joined a FD media course followed by BND Interactive media where I got Distinctions for both. During that time I gained experience and skill in manipulating images and an intuitive knowledge of this kind of software in general which makes picking up new ones very easy for me. Armed with my grades and the passion I had, I went on to bigger things - university.
During my first year I gained a great deal of technical knowledge that I intend taking full advantage of to help me in my future career. For example, we were given the opportunity to film a 2-day festival for local radio station, Air FM. Our involvement in the project was filming everything from the talent performing on stage, interviews, backstage preparation and capturing the general atmosphere from the crowd. All the projects we have completed on this course have given me so much experience as well as more of an idea of the amount of work that goes into it all.
