Post Production on Tour
Alex Macleod I’m writing this article after finally settling back into my office after a busy few days on the Kitplus Tour 2019. The tour saw me travelling from Manchester to Glasgow then onto Bristol, then finally returning back to Manchester. Quite a few miles travelled. But totally worth it.

Trade shows and their role in the wired world
Richard Baker Historically trade shows afforded an opportunity to collect the latest brochures relevant to the visitor's chosen industry or career path. Today there seems little reason to store data of any kind, let alone paper brochures, when information is so easily accessible online. Brochure back-packing at exhibitions has become a rare sight, rarer still since the security clampdown on visitor luggage at exhibitions. Today's efficient show delegate need only carry a mobile phone and, in deference to tradition, a bundle of business cards. The phone doubles as a snapshot camera, video camera, dictaphone, email reader, internet browser, Skype communicator, and so on.

10 Ways to make your trade show booth stand out
Candice Cowan With 15 halls and over 1600 exhibitors, there's little chance of seeing every stand at the IBC trade show - but this year I gave it a good try and racked up an impressive number of daily steps to prove it! Unlike most show visitors, however, I wasn't looking for the latest bit of tech or next product to purchase, instead I was focussed on how IBC exhibitors use stand design and trade show marketing techniques on the show floor to attract the attention of exhibition visitors.

Are you female and going to IBC
Sadie Groom Trade shows within this industry can be hard enough to survive for anyone, let alone as a woman when women make up less than 10% of the general populace. There are undoubtedly some benefits to being the minority (as there are with many things); I've never had to queue for the toilets for a start. However, feedback we have collated from our FBI database on the female experience at trade shows suggests there is still some way to go for gender equality and having an equivalent presence as a woman on the show floor.

Soho shaking all over Manchester
Alan Bradbury It was a busy time for my colleagues and I here at Soho Editors last month, but quite a telling one too. The relentless thrust northward of post-production, film, TV and broadcast services in the UK, saw us - and indeed many other companies - exhibiting at the Kitplus Tour, hosted at the MediaCityUK complex at Salford Quays.

Gekko Kelvin Tile LED REVIEW
Jon Pratchett
I like LED lighting. I know there are a lot of people who tell us that it can't produce the wide colour gamut of Tungsten, and I agree. But it’s getting close and the shear ease at which you can set them up and control their brightness, not to mention the lack of heat and the ability to run them for hours off a battery for me out ways the possible colour issues.

Creating the illusion: Green screen lighting
David Morphy

If good cinematography is about creating the illusion of three dimensional reality, on a two dimensional screen. Working to create reality using background plates offers a whole new variety of technical issues that need to be addressed with skill if it is going to be successful. In this article I will touch on some of the basic issues that need to be taken into account in order to pull off the illusion of "Reality", and done well it is a creative process and can be very rewarding.

NAB 2012 Kit Review used by BroadcastShow
N/A So pre-NAB we are all very busy organising interviews with 70 exhibitors over 4 days covering 4 halls and in our case around 28 miles. Late last year we developed an online interview booking system at www.broadcastshow.com which allows exhibitors to book one or more 15 minute slots, enter stand information and questions they may like asked during the interview. Over the month preceding the show the fill up and we are left with a spreadsheet of who to see and when to see them. Thankfully the slot booker is intelligent enough to know which days we will be in which halls so dashing is kept to a minimum.

Many of the UK-based stalwarts who make the annual pilgrimage to Amsterdam could be seen exploring the show, confirming that BVE is now taken seriously by mainstream broadcasters.
