There are some product launches that feel like a box-ticking exercise, and then there are the ones you know will genuinely make a difference on set. For us, the release of our new Mini 26V G-Lok battery is firmly the latter.
We’re proud to be introducing a long-awaited addition to the Hawk-Woods battery range: the Mini 26V G-Lok, available initially in 98Wh and 150Wh versions, with 14.4V models following soon.
When we started developing this system, we spent a lot of time looking at what was already out there. There are some good options in the market, no doubt about it, but we kept coming back to the same question: can it be better? Not just different. Not just another battery with a new label on it. Better in the ways that actually matter to the people using it every day.
That thinking shaped the whole system.
INTRODUCING THE MINI G-LOK
The new Mini 26V G-Lok has been built for modern broadcast and cine applications where size, weight, reliability and safety all matter. It delivers serious power in a compact form factor that feels far more practical for today’s workflows, especially where space is tight and rigs need to stay mobile. Whether it is being used on cameras, lighting or supporting accessories, the aim was simple: give users the output they need without the bulk they do not.
Inside, we have used premium lithium-ion cells from Samsung and LG, manufacturers with a strong reputation for quality and resilience. That gives us the confidence to put forward a battery that is not only compact, but also capable of the high discharge performance demanded by modern equipment.
THE SAFEVOLT PLATE
One of the biggest strengths of this system is how it works alongside our new G-Lok plates. We developed the platform with flexibility and safety in mind, especially for professionals working across mixed-voltage setups. Our SafeVolt technology allows the battery and plate to communicate before power is passed through to the equipment. In simple terms, the system checks that the voltage is correct before anything goes live. If there is a mismatch, the battery’s front LED gives a clear warning. That kind of safeguard can make a very expensive difference.
We also designed the G-Lok plate to support both 14.4V and 26V batteries, while allowing the user to lock in their voltage choice before mounting. That means fewer chances for error, less second-guessing on set, and better protection for the equipment being powered. While the battery remains compatible with third-party plates, the SafeVolt voltage protection feature is exclusive to Hawk-Woods G-Lok battery and plate combinations.
MINI PROPORTIONS, BIG POWER
Physically, the battery has been designed to stay compact and practical. It is around a third of the size and weight of a standard battery, small enough to sit comfortably in the hand, but still built to handle demanding professional use. That makes it especially useful for lighter builds, or any setup where keeping weight down matters.
IMPROVED DURABILITY
We have also strengthened the contact pins on the G-Lok fitting to improve the connection and, when paired with Hawk-Woods plates, allow more power to be delivered reliably. The battery is rated to 15A max, making it suitable for high-draw equipment where stability matters.
POWERING ACCESSORIES
Another key advantage is the regulated 13.5V D-Tap output on the 26V model. That slightly higher regulated voltage is there for a reason. On longer cable runs, voltage drop can become a real issue, sometimes enough to cause instability or unwanted shutdowns. By giving a bit more headroom, the battery helps ensure equipment still receives the voltage it needs at the other end of the cable. It is one of those details that may not sound flashy, but in real-world use it matters.
Alongside performance, we have kept a strong focus on usability. A five-step LED gauge makes it easy to check battery status at a glance, and sub-100Wh options offer the added benefit of being approved for carry-on air travel, which is increasingly important for international productions. As with all Hawk-Woods battery systems, protection is built in, including safeguards against over-voltage, over-discharge, thermal events, short circuits and incorrect charging conditions.
THE COMPATIBILITY SIDE
Compatibility is another area where this battery is well positioned. The Mini 26V G-Lok system is suited to a wide range of high-end cameras including the ARRI Alexa 35, LF, Mini LF, Amira and many others.
For us, this launch is about more than adding another model to the range. It is about responding properly to what the market needs: compact 26V power, dependable performance, better safety, and a system designed with real working conditions in mind.
