On-camera monitors for today and tomorrow
Paul Issacs Image quality is a central concern for users of any video product, so monitoring should be one of the foremost considerations for cinematographers and videographers. Along similar lines, the ability of consumer televisions and a range of personal devices to display increasingly better imagery has led to higher expectations of quality.

Making an advert with the Blackmagic Cinema Camera
Brandon Kahn When Mothers Basement came to us with an advert to put on UK cinema screens, I knew my trusty, but basic, XF 305 wasnt going to cut it. Sure, most ads you see in cinema are projected in regular HD and are often shot no higher than 1080, but I felt we needed some extra size.

3D for Cinema, ProAV and Events
N/A Over more than a century of motion picture presentations there have been periods when 3D has emerged, and each time interest has faded away. The latest 3D wave goes back to the advent of digital technology for cinemas. Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) was formed in 2002 and delivered its first DCI Specification in 2005, when Doremi was well ahead with the necessary technology for a DCI-compliant player. It was very soon clear that digital cinema technology could sweep aside many of the shortcomings of the film-based 3D presentations, and so open the door to a new 3D era. The digital medium is far more accurate than film could ever be. With no film weave, sparkles, scratches, frame hops or wear, digital cinema delivers, steady, clean, sharp, in-sync presentations that are as good on the 200th run as the first. This is the perfect medium to provide a comfortable and exciting viewing experience for stereoscopic 3D movies.

Twas the issue before Christmas;
Will Strauss# As its nearly Christmas, I figured, what better way to honor the end of anther year than to celebrate everything that has gone before? To do that, Ive picked my favourite production technology innovations of 2012. But, as were fast approaching the festive season, Ive compiled them in the form a Christmas shopping list. Yes, I know. Its genius. Why has no one ever thought of this before? They have? Oh well. Its too late now. Hopefully, there should be something here for everyone in your extended family (assuming your extended family is either ensconced in the television industry or extremely weird).
