When absolute CAD, the Soho based broadcast installation experts released their range of rackmount products in 2007, it was to improve the way equipment was installed within a facility. But the client feedback indicated that the products were not only being purchased to solve the rackmount issues, but also to increase the security of the assets. Thereafter the CADLOCK range was launched, which enabled the equipment to be secured into an equipment rack, preventing unauthorised removal.
The range initially covered a rackmount kit for the Avid Mojo interface and a rackmount kit for the Apple G5/MacPro computer. Since then the range has grown to a lockable desk kit for the MacPro and a Dongle Lock, which enables the users to secure and protect the all important software keys which enable the editing software to run.
“After hearing that some of our clients in Soho had been targeted in equipment theft, we began designing products which secured some of their more important assets. This year we have improved on all of the designs for the range, and have increased the range to include a securing desk kit for the MacPro, which enables the user to lock the Mac under their desk.” Mike Watson Technical Director absolute CAD
The product range has major distribution within the UK and Europe and now in North America and Canada.
Deskmount Kit for Mac Pro
The new deskmount kits are now being installed within many Mac based design companies, as well as securing the Macs within schools and colleges. The locking mechanism for the des kit secures the Mac to the underside of the desk, as well as preventing the side of the Mac from being opened in Situ. This further protects the internal hardware of the Mac.
The Dongle Lock
The dongle Lock is a rackmount safe which enable the user to house up to 4 Dongles securely behind the equipment. Both Avid and the Pro-Audio devision Digidesign both still use USB keys to enable the software and plug-ins to work. These valuable keys, if damaged or lost, render the hardware useless. By securing these devices, the downtime is minimised.
“Software USB keys are continually be misplaced, or more importantly damaged by being knocked when in situ. We designed the Dongle Lock to house up to 4 USB keys at the rear of a rack, preventing unauthorised removal. This eliminates the unnecessary downtime caused by damaged or lost Dongles, whilst waiting for the insurance companies to compensate, or for the resellers to replace.” Keefer Erickson – Product designer absolute CAD
