Out of the box: Sennheiser Ambeo VR microphone
Jon Pratchett The use of 360 video, especially on platforms like Facebook and YouTube is really starting to take off. Gone are the days when you needed to buy multiple GoPros and rigs in order to get something decent looking. Now players like Insta360 and even GoPro with their fusion 360 camera are providing single camera, high quality solutions, enabling the masses to put out reasonable quality, certainly watchable, 360 video.

PAGlink reviewed
Jon Pratchett Up until recently I always thought that a battery was, well just a battery. After all its just a load of cells strung together and put in some kind of case right? Well apparently not, it seems that there is a bit more to it than that, and the folks at PAG were keen to prove this by providing me with a set of their PL96e V-Mount Batteries to test.

Sony UWP series microphone review
Jon Pratchett Its all well and good having a beautifully lit and well framed and focused shot, but if the sound is rubbish then you might as well throw the footage in the bin. Sound is as important as the quality of the video image. This is especially true when interviewing someone or recording a corporate presentation.

Gekko Kelvin Tile LED REVIEW
Jon Pratchett
I like LED lighting. I know there are a lot of people who tell us that it can't produce the wide colour gamut of Tungsten, and I agree. But it’s getting close and the shear ease at which you can set them up and control their brightness, not to mention the lack of heat and the ability to run them for hours off a battery for me out ways the possible colour issues.

Call of Duty Black Ops II: World Exclusive First Look Streamed Live from Gamescom
N/A I work a lot in live online broadcasting, and backup systems are top of mind when designing any live event. Being off air for any reason is unacceptable, so I build systems knowing that should something fail, I can easily reroute the signal or switch to another machine.

Matrox Microquad reviewed
N/A There's nothing quite like a bank of screens in front of you, showing all your video feeds coming in to the production system. The more it looks like the something from Star Trek the happier I am. However when you start to look at the cost of all those screens and especially if you are monitoring HD/SDI inputs, I have to admit a wave of despair gradually begins to flood over me. I simply can't afford lots of HD/SDI screens to monitor my feeds not to mention the space they occupy.

A live video streaming advocate
N/A As you may or may not know, Im a bit of a live video streaming advocate. I love the idea of being able to distribute high quality content via the internet, without the need for huge budgets, licensing, and all the hassle involved more conventional means.

Matrox MC-100 Reviewed
N/A I have always liked multitools, leatherman, Gerber, Swiss Army. Amazing little all in one tools that can get you out a hole when you need. Its the same when out setting up a Live webcast, a multi camera event or simply assisting another crew, I always like to have a few useful boxes of tricks with me just in case.

Review on the Autocue SSP17 Starter Series
N/A The time has come. My home made autocue, although working well, needed to be upgraded. It had served me well for a couple of years, but I needed something a bit higher quality and slightly bigger.

Peli 1640 Review
N/A It may or may not have become apparent that I love my tech. I use it, write about it, podcast about it. In fact I think I might even start shaking and suffering from mild withdrawal symptoms if I don't have a least one item of tech near me.

Robert Llewellyn
N/A Many of you will have heard of the TV show on the "Dave" Channel called "Carpool". You know the one, Red Dwarf and Scrap heap Challenge star Robert Llewellyn picks up someone in his car, drives him or her around a bit and has a chat. It’s a great series and you feel like your spying on a private conversation between two people on their way to work.

Hands on an IPad 2
N/A Its been near on 1 year since the Apple iPad landed on planet earth. No one knew if it was going to be a success, sceptics were sure that the tablet format would be nothing more than a fad and that true portable computing still lay in the realms of the notebook pc's. However after 9 months and 12 million units sold, Apple of course, again, annoyingly were right and the iPad took the world by storm, transforming the portable computing market in to a tablet infested sea of android and windows wannabes.
