The Prism Sound Effect.
When Prism Sound took over the SADiE brand last year, it embarked on a fact-finding mission to discover why the brand had such a huge and extremely dedicated international user base. This process has been extremely enlightening and has enabled Prism Sound to respond with SADiE 6 - a new product for professional sound editors that is sure to enhance the brands already strong reputation.
Launched at IBC, SADiE 6 not only delivers the full palate of SADiE’s world-renowned editing paradigm and a complete graphical overhaul., but for the first time ever it allows SADiE to run ‘natively’ on standard approved ASIO hardware and WMD (Windows Media) driven PCs/Laptops. Of course SADiE 6 can also run on existing SADiE 5 hardware and will eventually run on new SADIE 6 hardware that is currently being developed, but the need for SADiE hardware dependence has been removed.
SADIE 6 Offering.
SADiE has always been an extremely stable and reliable workhorse for professional editing, but its new look, native operation and new pricing structure is opening up new market areas. To clarify what there are, Prism Sound is offering SADiE 6 as three main applications-based software ‘suites’ comprising:
SADiE 6 Radio Producer
SADiE 6 Post Suite
SADiE 6 Mastering Suite
Each SADiE 6 Suite contains all the SADiE-made plugins and tools needed for the specified purpose. Customers who want all of the software options and plug-ins can access them via a fourth version - Sound Suite, which is intended for individuals or production companies who need to offer their customers a much broader range of solutions.
Workflow.
Workflow has been an increasingly important selling point of SADiE over the years, integrating as it does with the BBC’s VCS radio play-out automation system, and other play-out systems around the world.
SADiE 6 brings further enhancements to this with its new ProTools™ file naming system and enhanced meta-data handling for better handling of multi-track recordings. It can also run multiple EDLs within its project-based structure, allowing for the building up of extremely complex productions, cutting & pasting from one EDL to another. This is also the case with SADiE 6’s mixer - multiple versions can be saved within each project.Grouping within the Playlist allows already-edited material t be quickly moved around the project, and groups can be nested to build up powerful soundscapes, and for auditioning creative ideas.
EDLs, Mixers and Clipstores can be imported from one project to another and to and from other DAWs, and Word™ and PDF documents can be stored within the project, which is extremely useful for scripts, floor plans, recording notes and so forth. SADiE 6’s ‘Project Folder’ can simply be dragged in its entirety to any Windows drive or network location for backup or copy.
SADiE 6 Editing and Mixing.
All the favourite editors are still there in SADiE 6 – and they all work within SADiE’s faster than real-time operation, with no rendering whatsoever; the graphical waveforms update instantly. Real-time cross-fading, with fade shapes instantly changeable can be performed with ease and the ultra-smooth scrub of SADiE is retained even on the native version.
The Mixer Automation is enhanced and there is an updated toolbar that allows more automation to be manipulated by a mouse. Of course this can all be done within the mixer itself by moving faders and knobs with a mouse, or by using a SADIE hardware controller set or third party controllers.
Hardware, Support and Upgrading.
Prism Sound is maintaining support for existing SADiE 5 users and will be manufacturing most of the range under the SADIE 6 brand name. There is also a fairly obvious marriage of SADiE 6 software and Prism Sound hardware, with a number of SADiE 6/Prism Sound Orpheus and SADiE 6/Prism Sound ADA-8 bundles now on offer.
Prism Sound has decided on a very simple upgrade path for previous SADiE users on Version 3 and Version 4 systems and some very attractive deals for those who wish to run SADiE 6 on their existing SADiE 5 hardware, including a two-for-one offer and a major pre-release discount.
In Conclusion.
There is no question that Prism Sound is making a bold statement with SADIE 6. It is putting its high-quality stamp on the product range and making sure the industry knows that SADiE will continue to pioneer the world of digital audio production for years to come.
The strong and unique editing paradigm, which gives SADiE users the competitive edge, remains fundamental to the new SADiE 6. Its speed of workflow, transparency and sheer editing genius remains unique and is one reason you will find SADiEs alongside Prism Sound gear in studios and mastering houses from Metropolis to Abbey Road and in the big broadcasters around the world, literally, from the BBC to Radio New Zealand.
