TV Futures, Tales on Location
Georgia Thirtle If I think back to last May, I was just finishing my second year at the University of Portsmouth, studying Television and Broadcasting, and winding down for the summer. Then out of the blue I got a message from my course leader, saying I might be getting a call from someone who was a location manager working for Raider productions, you know, the production company behind the upcoming Tomb Raider film, I mean, what!?

Alex Watson Studying on the BSc Television and Broadcasting course at the University of Portsmouth had given me some experience working as a camera operator, but this summer I had the chance to put what I'd learned over the last two years into practice.

Gemma Frith I used to hate audio. Every time we recorded audio on a location shoot, something seemed to go wrong. It was a nightmare. And because I didn't understand it, I avoided it and would do anything to not be responsible for recording sound. However, eventually it got to a point where I hated how much I hated audio more than I hated audio itself! It became frustrating that I couldn't get it right, and I didn't want to have to avoid it anymore; I wanted to become a master of audio. That may have been slightly ambitious, but still, I was going to try.

Danielle Wiltshire Hello I'm Danielle Wiltshire and I am currently in my final year at the University of Portsmouth studying on the specialist course BSc Television and Broadcasting. One of the things I love about my course is that the academics involved are always striving to be ahead of the curve with teaching, and they care greatly about what aspects of industry practice need to be in the curriculum. For example, IP is now regarded as one of the serious futures of broadcasting, I got the opportunity to set-up a proper outside broadcast as part of my final year project.

Callum O Leary When I first introduced myself back in September, I had just begun my final year project and it was all very early days. I cannot stress how scary the prospect of a final year project is, and it is most certainly a mountain that needs to be climbed.

Dylan Ellcome The end of my third year of BSc Television and Broadcasting at the University of Portsmouth is drawing closer, meaning the end of my time at University. Several deadlines have come and gone, and my CCI management of Script Editing has slowed down. But I still can't comprehend this ending, as there is still much to do with several big deadlines left including my Documentary. But looming above it all is as always has been my Final year project.

Raechelle Jackson The penultimate term studying Television and Broadcasting is a time to reflect upon my journey as a CCI TV manager thus far and look to the future. And as graduation starts to inch ever closer, I am now pondering the opportunities that lie ahead of me. When I think back to what I knew as I walked through the doors of the University, I can feel quite proud of how far I've come. I am much more aware of my strengths and what it takes to produce good broadcast quality television. I can't get too ahead of myself just yet however, as I still have plenty to do in my final year before I say goodbye to my student life and begin my journey exploring graduate jobs and taking that scary, exciting step into the world of employment.
